Accurate and functional app

I have played 3 rounds now using Golfshot and love it. All of my courses are in there, and even the ones I play occasionally. I have found distance to be within 5 yards of actual, and consistent from hole to hole. It only took me a few minutes to enter my account informaiton, club set, and customize my layup clubs. I love the simplicity of entering scores, putts, drives, sand saves and penalties. I can enter all of this while driving from one green to the next tee box. I especially like that I get an email with an electronic score card when I finish my round, so that I can email to my other golf partners. I have a buddy that bought a golf gps app that he pays an annual fee for, and he actually likes mine better. You won't be disappointed with this app.

This is THE app for golfers out there. I've tried quite a few apps and devices but this one beats them all by a long shot. The measurements are accurate and I love the fact that you can keep score for other golfers and not only yourself. The stat options are great and very helpful as well. Also, if your course is not listed, you can request it and it will be added within a week. A MUST buy and it will save you a ton of money compared to other, extremely over rated golf devices.

Excellent!! Had my home course mapped in a day. Yardages were all off on the first game. Sent a support request with an explanation and I had an update the next day. Now the yardages are bang on. The issue was with the positioning of the Google maps and not with the mapping process. Scoring your game is simple with the interface. Support is top notch. I'm glad I didn't get a dedicated GPS.

By far, this is the best available. I was about to drop ~$400 on a gps golf unit but decided it try this for $30 first - great decision! Extremely accurate, great stats, easy and quick data entry, stable and has not yet crashed. You can check email, make calls, etc., then open the app again be right where you left off. When the round is complete, it will email your score card with stats. I just forward the email to the head pro at my club and he has someone enter the data for my handicap. It's great!The iPhone battery is an issue, but that's no surprise. Make sure it's 100% charged and follow the instructions on how to conserve power. I bought an iPhone case with a built-in battery (Mophie Juice Jack Air - it was about $80 at the Apple Store). It more than doubles the iPhone's battery life and gives plenty of juice for a round of golf then answering all of those emails and phone calls you ignored on the course... It also protects it when you drop it, and you will probably drop it on the course... The new update is great! The in-software stats are awesome!

I've never reviewed a single product; but I feel like I owe golfshot more money! This app is just as accurate as skycaddie with much better features. I can't believe that people are complaining about the price or the battery life. You are saving over $300 on the app and it's way better than any dedicated golf gps. And you will kill your battery if you run any app for five hours. Quit crying, buy a $40 booster pack and stop checking your yardage from 50 yards out!!!

Just back from my first round with GolfShot on my iPhone 3G-S. It performed far beyond what I expected for a relatively low cost iPhone App. Fast, accurate and easy to use. The performance and usability is better than stand alone golf GPS devices that cost 10 times what GolfShot costs. The scoring system, once I got the hang of it, is very easy to use and gives you lots of information to mull over when your round is over. I smiled all the way home and not because of my score, but because this app helped justify my upgrading to the 3G-S.

Okay. Downloaded the App like really fast. Without reading any instructions, took it to my course. Amazed at how easy it was to use. Even with the fun I had on the course, I found it just as much fun getting home and reviewing my round via the emailed scorecard with all the stats. Only problem (my fault) is I started out with my iphone battery down to 65%. It took me only 2.5 hours to play 18, but it shut down right as I completed the round. This while using the save mode that's installed. One last thing. I was thinking about getting a dedicated GPS for golf. Well let me say, I can't imagine it being any better than this app. Get it and enjoy.

It took sometime (after the first 3 holes) to figure out how to log your stats( you tap your nickname) but once i learned how this GPS was a cinch, after each hole i'd walk to the cart and grab my iphone and i would tap the arrow icon for next hole and it would ask me my score?, hit the fairway? or miss left or right, how many putts, penalties and sandy's?, logging all this took about 15 seconds and on to the next hole.
after the first 9 I played the battery life on my iphone was about half way so i decided to plug in my battery back up i purchased from cingular($50.00 but you can find cheaper ones that hold AA for $15.00) this allowed me to play 18 more holes for a total of 27 holes from 12:00p.m til 5:30p.m and with the battery back up when we were finished I had about 1/4 charge left on my Iphone.
During the second 9 i decided to tinker with the aerial finger touch and to my surprise this is a very accurate ,simple and extremely helpful if you wanted to know distances to bunkers or lay ups and then it would automatically tell you how much from your lay up you'd then have to the green, very cool, you can even zoom in.
All in all this GPS is awesome, i'll be selling my golflogix gps on ebay real soon!
The distances were 0-2 yards compared with my bushnell rangefinder, Golflogix for my iphone was off 7-10 yards compared to my rangefinder, that is why i went with golfshot app even though golflogix allowed a free 24 hr. trial.
Now some cons, you must get a battery back up if you want to play 18 holes and not have any worries, on the 19th hole i played, the GPS revealed i was 70 yds. out when in fact i was 165 yds. out, the GPS quickly recovered and was spot on by the time i reached the 20th hole, this was the only gliche i encountered all day and there was off and on showers with thick cloud cover and strong winds, so under the circumstances i was very pleased.
Also when using the aerial viewing it can sometimes be diffucult due to being outside but i just shaded the phone with my hand and all was good plus they have a zoom button so you can zoom in on the hole.
You don't have to log stats but it really is simple once you learn it and now that my 27 holes are finished and i'm home looking at how i did stat wise for each 9 holes i played, i can review my nines and see where i need to work on my game.

Great bang for the buck!

I just got done playing two rounds today, the first at Raccoon Creek and the second at Centennial. Both courses are in Centennial, CO. The product is worth the price. I would like to see the app take advantage of the 3GS built-in compass; it's not necessary, it would just be that nice extra feature. I had a full charge at the beginning of the day, after two rounds and making/receiving calls and texts I finished the second round at 40% battery life. I turned nothing off on my iPhone, so the program does not drain the battery at all.

Shocked, as to how good this app is!!!!

It was tuff spending $30 for a IPhone app but I have got every penny's worth. I had been looking for a good score card app. This app had everything I wanted, Club use, Left or right on drives, GIR's, Putting, Sand and Penalty strokes. Stat's and emailing my score card to me. I didn't think that the GPS could be any good. I mean, it cost $400 for a good golf gps device and a yearly rate after that. I was Shocked to see that my new 30 buck app was (on average) 2 yards different from the GPS in the golf cart I was useing. Can't wait for my on course to be listed. I am VERY PLEASED with my purchase.

I've played a couple courses so far with this product and I'm extremely impressed with the capabilities of this app. It's been perfect for those times you wonder how far it would be to lay up to that landing area before the green and no more wondering how many yards it is to the specific locations on the green.The score card feature is great. It's easy to use and more importantly quick to navigate.After a round viewing all your score information and statistics is very informational.No more random score cards from all the different courses, everything in one place, perfect!!This app is a must have for any serious golfer.

I believe that a GPS app should be easy to use, quick, so as not to slow down play, accurate, and have enough courses. Golfshot GPS is that and more.
Distances are accurate--I compared them to my laser and a friend's Skycaddie.
The interface is very intuitive. I can enter in my score and a few key stats between holes usually before anyone pulls away from the green to head to the next tee.
Follow the recommendations to increase battery life during play. I have not had a problem with playing 18 holes with Golfshot GPS. Even when I turn off the phone to save battery life it picks up the satellites pretty quickly. I probably don't have to do this as often as I do but I do it anyway.
I checked the course library before I bought the app. It has most of the course in my area. Others have reported that they add courses fairly quickly once submitted. I will probably request a few in the future.
I have used various lasers and golf GPS devices. This app is all you need.

Good enough to take the place of a dedicated GPS or rangefinder

I read the reviews and was worried about the battery issue most of all. Just took it out today for the first time and I shouldn't have been worried at all. I have the 3GS, and I had no battery issues whatsoever. My battery was at 95 percent when I started and when I walked off 18 after a four hour round my battery was at 67 percent. This was after using it for the entire round and I did have my phone set to sleep, which is how the phone is normally set up so it wasn't using the display and the 3g the whole time. I only waited two times for it to acquire satellites and the other times it acquired satellites and gave me a yardage within 15 seconds, which is totally acceptable to me personally. I used a rangefinder on some holes just to double check the yardage and it was always within 3-5 yards of the gps so I also found that acceptable. The score keeping part of the app made it extremely easy to keep track of a foursome's score. Overall, I was extremely pleased with this app and would definitely recommend it.
UPDATE: used this app for a few weeks now and couldn't be more pleased. Battery is not an issue whatsoever. I have used it to play 5, 18 hole rounds and started with the battery fully charged on 4 rounds and started at 92 percent on the other one and the battery has never drained below 65 percent. I did not change the sleep settings to anything different than what they already were. In between shots the phone sleeps and I unlock and it has acquired the satellites and given me a distance within 15 seconds tops. I have taken along a laser rangefinder so I could see how accurate this program was and it was uncanny how often the numbers were exactly the same. It was never more than 3 yards off on any distance that I lasered to double check. I would gladly play 3 times what it costs because for that price you are getting a full service gps program that is capable of making a round of golf extremely enjoyable and stress free. Just get the yardage and go. The scorecard function is awesome and I love the stats you get after a round so that I can tell what I need to work on. Top notch app, don't hesitate to give it a try. I was extremely skeptical at first but I am sold.

I had a skycaddie 2.5 which i thought was very good which cost me £189.00 + £ 35.00 per year.Then i got an iphone 3gs and bougt golfshot for £ 14.99 and no yearly subscribtion.It is the best golf gps system i have ever seen i play of a 3 handicap and this app really helps.The speed and accuracy is spot on and i dont have a problem with battery life just follow the golf shotguide, i started with 100% battery played 18 holes and still had 75% remaining at the end.Finally i am going to portugal for a week and none of th five courses i am playing were in there directory. I requested them on the friday and all of them were fully mapped by monday morning. Fantastic Product.

I suppose that my title could be construed as "over the top" but when I consider that I have this App on my PHONE which has several other Apps which are so extremely helpful, I am simply amazed. I have owned two other top-of-the-line golf GPS range finders costing over $400.00 and niether of them have anything over Golfshot. This App is extremely user friendly. I have used it on several courses and the measurements are all accurate. All the courses that I play are on Golfshot and when I requested a course in another country, I received a personal reply and got my request within three days. The convenience and reliability can only be understood when you have Golfshot. Thanks a lot.

I can only assume pinky had a malfunctioning gps on his phone. Should contact apple about that. Got the new iPhone 32gs and the updated gps system is out of this world. Golfshot worked wonderfully. I only need to turn the screen on and it aquires my position in less than a second. Scoring system is good as well. If they put the stableford and skins scoring in I would even pay more money. Best value and I feel sorry for sky caddie as I can not see them being in business much longer

If you are thinking about a golf gps of any kind get this app. I have had 3 different gps devices costing over $500 for the last one. It had a graphic of the hole that I thought was great and had a scorecard feature. This app makes that gps look like a dinosaur. This is one incredible golf gps. I used it with my other $500 dollar gps and it gave me all the same readings, but has much better functionality and the satellite images are great. The scorecard feature is also first rate. When you finish your round it emails the results to all the players and updates your stats. I made a couple of suggestions for the future and they responded they are already in the works. The improvements aren't necessary, but will make a great app even better. You can buy this app without having any doubts that you can get anything better. I would pay $100 for this app.

I agree with most of the positive reviews written. I have one simple request. I would like to be able to go from the gps screne to my score card by swiping my finger across the screne instead of having to press the arrow at the bottom right of the screne. That would be an awesome improvement. I also wrote a review for the cheaper version and the improvement was made a couple of days later. You guys actually listen to these reviews. Awesome! I look forward to writin another positive review for this impressive app.

If you're thinking about this one then buy it! On course it's great, accuracy is superb, distances to lay ups etc really handy, and helps a lot with club selections. After the round you get emailed your scorecard and link to stats which are great, ideal as it's something most golfers wouldn't keep, GIR's, ave Putts, missed fairways all things to help your game. Needed a new course added, submitted 8pm UK time and was there by the following morning, great service. Couple of minor points, which others have mentioned, would be great to download the course to your phone before you go out, not all courses have a great data signal, plus if ur golfing abroad, it's gonna cost on your data plan. Also couldn't get last shot distance to work, maybe it's me but only ever showed a few yards, maybe I need to re-read the manual, not an issue tho. In summary - superb all round for £18.

Well, I have played three rounds with this and it works great. I have the 3gs and after 18, I had 60% battery life left. The only drawback which is not that big of a deal is aquiring the satelite...It does it and then sometimes it changes the yardage so make sure you don't rush it, look at it twice....but well worth the 29.99 instead of a skycaddie which i used to have. I kept score on it and after the round when I save it, it automatically emailed it to me which I could forward it to the others.....best app for a golfer !!
