One of the best sports games!

This game is so addicting and so much fun! I gave it a shot even though I do have the enhanced firmware (I even have WB, but am not using a theme), since it was only $2. To my surprise it's probably the most stable game on my iPhone 3G. It has not even crashed once, while playing it, and it starts up pretty quick. The game controls are a little hard at first, but after a couple of games, it's really fun. The game has 2 modes, quick game - where you play a quick set, and tournament - where you play a full match against an opponent. The tournament mode can take quite some time depending on how you set up the scoring. The graphics are quite nice and I haven't seen any lag at all so far. The game is definitely worth even the $5 price.
What I would really like to see is some more characters in the game, so that you could play a real tournament with several matches against different opponents. Maybe also a couple of different tournaments where you could win trophies. It would also be cool to see the score during the game with the results of each individual set.

Didn't get this game when it first came out but checked it out after seeing the developer was talking about it online and taking people's suggestions very seriously. Then they did the Holiday Edition and I knew I had to give it a go.
Very glad I did!
The game is a very fun tennis game and it works well. I saw a couple of reviews that dogged it for various things, but I haven't seen anything like that. Perhaps it was the updates. I've had a really good time playing the game and showing it off to others.
It's not a "perfect" tennis game, but what do you expect so early in the game... It has more than enough feel of the real thing and the 3D part really makes it impressive.
And speaking of updates... the dev mentioned that they're planning on doing more things like this "Holiday Edition". You could have Anna in a "bunny suit" for Easter! I really like the idea of a dev who is willing to make sure their game is fresh to those who spend money on it. That's a real plus to me!

I am so Sick and Tired of people complaining about games crashing, then they turn around and give the developer a 1 star rating.
Especially in cases like this when it has NOTHING to do with the developer, but the stupidity of the ipod / iphone user.

This game does NOT crash. In fact, I haven't had a game crash in months. I am using a 32gb ipod touch.
ANYHOW, to the game review we go!!!
In my humble opinion, This is the best Tennis game on the appstore.
I have the others and I do enjoy them as well, but the gameplay in this game feels the most solid.
There is another Tennis game that gives this one a very good go, but when it comes down to it, TouchSports Tennis 09 is the one.
POSITIVES
- Graphics. The look of this game isn't too far off of Virtual Tennis for the PSP. Great job there!
- It appears that all of the Tennis players are females. No need for a sausage fest when it comes to a Tennis game.
- Sound effects are great. The ball off the racket, ground, net - The crowd - Announcer - Grunt when swinging, and best of all, the sneaker squeeking!
- Quick play AND tournament mode.
- Controls. They did a great job here. I feel the ability to get as accurate as my own skill lever will allow. Great job here guys.
NEGATIVES
- Only ONE tennis court to play on. This is sort of a big one for me, as I like content. I don't need more players or outfits, just more tennis courts.
- No difference in time of day. Night tennis is very cool, and also some dynamic weather effects would be awesome...Thunder, Lightning and Rain!
Although they really wouldn't play in this condition, It would relax me while I am playing this game.
Can't think of anymore negatives. All I can say is that the lack of different tennis courts will cut down the replay value for me personally.
- This game would be a 4 star rating for me, BUT since there are knuckleheads that felt the developer deserved to be punished with a 1 star rating for their own shortcomings, I am giving TouchSports Tennis 09 five stars to offset the unfair score.

I re-rated this app since I gradually figured out what prevents this app from running. It's a fun game since I am a big tennis fan. I agree that graphic could be better but not a big deal because that means more memory required to run. But I agree that there could be more player to choose from.
The upgrade is great. Solved problem of conflict with some other app. I wasn't able to play after update to firmware 2.2. But now I can play without problem.

First off, what's up with you crashers? Reset your device after a download (I have iPhone 3G). I frankly have not had many crash problems in general and none with this game. Graphics are solid, I have not noticed any lag in game play, and touch controls work pretty darn good once you figure out what does what. Most important to me is replay value and this has it. I agree that ball direction control should include tilting the device forward and back for drop shots and lobs. That is my only suggestion. Nice job Devs on a good sports game. We need more of them. UPDATE: after a few weeks of playing, has the replay value I was hoping for. I disagree with the reviewer who says you can rally forever--position player in advance of Al's shot in anticipation of where she will hit it and you can blow one by her easier. If you guess wrong she will make you look bad, just like in real tennis. Looking forward to updates. Not to impressed by what looks like developer padding some of these reviews though.

The controls are little difficult at the beginning but once you play couple of rounds, this game rocks. Graphics are amazing and sound is cool. Since it's winter here, I am going to quench my tennis thirst through this game. More characters would be nice. Best sports game ever made for the iPhone. Not sure what crashes are people talking about on the reviews here,, this game works fine and it's stable than asphalt racing and safari (builtin browser)

Great to play with good graphics and hours of fun but to make better you could: 1) have real football 09 controls with movement wheel on left and drop shot button and lob button with wheel to move character and aim shot 2) or have tilt to move and tap to hit controls. Maybe give player choice in options menu. 3) More characters and stadiums. 4) tournament features multiple games in a ladder (vs different players) with different knockout rounds (eg quarters, semis, final) and trophy at end. Please incorperate some if not all ideas (especially last point) to make this game the best app on the store in a update soon.

I have just purchosed the tennis online and then instantly saw this. This is very close. The graphics are much better but the gameplay lacks things. One thing neither of them have i the option of shots: slice, topspin, lob. I think it't be great if you can make the gameplay more realistic. The graphics need to be more rounded and overall it is a great game. I would also like if you could also add more players. maybe 3 men player rafa, fed, and djocofich maybe

I've had this game for about 6 months. At first I wasn't convinced but once I'd realised you can aim your hit by tilting the phone (I should've read the instructions properly first time around) the game is now so much fun to play. This is an absolute bargain at 59p. The graphics and game play are excellent. I now find it hard to put down it's so much fun. This really is a well made game with a lot of attention to detail. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The people who wrote the negative reviews probably didn't read the instructions properly before playing. It's very simple to control but you should still read the instructions first. Well done to the makers though. I've bought a lot of games for my phone but this is one of my absolute favourites. N

After real soccer 2009, this game is amazing for sports fans. Hard to master the controls until you get the hang of it, easy to play and mediocre graphics other than that amazing!!! In a future update you guys should include more players, real tournament such as the grand slams and better graphics. Of you make this suggestions happen this would be #1. Still one of my faves and thanks for this amazing game.

Fun little game. Nice Graphics. Good use of accelemeter and touch screen. The touch screen portion of this game is tricky. You touch the screen at the place you want your player to wind up. If you drag your finger you will get frustrated. Would also like to play a live person rather than the Computer. But by far the best tennis game I have seen. Would love to see a Football and hokey game that are At least as realistic as this if Not more. Keep up the work and look forward to future updates.

The game is not working on my iPhone 3G but Unlike the others, I am giving the application 4 stars to keep the developer motivated so that he can hurry up and fix it for it. Simply I can't judge because I am unable to test the game play, the game screen shows buttons which are non clickable to me. But on the other side I saw some videos on YouTube and I am very amazed with the graphics quality, so I hope that one day (very soon) I can join the club and enjoy it. --------------------------- Updated: As I promised, here is the fifth star for making the game working on all modified firmwares. It is such a great game to play and the top of its class.

It Is really fun at times but there are some problems such as it can lack response time meaning it takes to long to respond, also somtimes the ball is way infront of the person and they can hit it from 15 or so feet away, also you should fix how you can hit the ball on the fly on a serve because that is unrealistic. All in all it is a fun game though but it would be nice if you fixed these things.

4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons:
1. I hate it when games make me hold the ipod with the home button on the left side. My hand gets in the way of the headphones, and it's not as comfortable. The option to flip it would be nice
2. Sometimes, the player controlled character won't move when I touch the screen. It could be the score stuff in the way of the court. I've found that I have to continually tap where I want them to go to get them to move.
Otherwise, no issues with crashing, and quite fun. I say this for many games now that they're becomming more popular, but online multiplayer would make this more interesting, and give it a lot of replay value. Just a thought.

The graphic is not bad at all Tho it def can be better n a little smoother, i really like the different styles of forehand n backhand Pls have more locations and maybe few more types of different tournaments? Training mode can be fun? Sounds of the ball can be a little more realistic? The players can make some noises? A new update will be greatly appreciated and will def bring this game to a new level!!!

I really like this game. When I first bought it I'd get destroyed by the "Hard" level but I've just won a match in straight sets. yay!!
Would be much better if it was a little harder though and an overhead backhand shot would be nice as opposed to your forehand swinging at fresh air every time the ball's lobbed over you left shoulder.
Tournament mode could do with upgrading to an actual tournament with quarters, semis and a Final, winners trophy etc!!
Definitely a game that's moving in the right direction though!

Near excellent, after recent update still needs additional work.

After the recent update I have decided to increase my rating to 4 stars - as the game play speed feels more natural since being slowed down, making the game more enjoyable to play. Graphics now appear smoother and less jagged around the edges) The sound effects are flawless and along with the overall realism of the game play.
This is still the best tennis game you could buy in the App Store - in terms of the closest you will get to playing a real game of tennis on your iPhone/iPod Touch.

While it lacks the depth of that one other tennis game gameplay-wise and gamemode-wise (what's with the tournament mode?), I'm do enjoy the controls just as much. . However, it is the graphics and how smooth the game runs that earns my extra star. After having seen older gameplay videos of the game, I think the speed update makes the game better. Was winning games after a few minutes. Wishes for future updates: (1) implement slices, lobs, actual volley animations, different serve types (slick, kicker, flat), drop shots (2) volleying up front makes the ball bounce abnormally high (3) strength/speed of shots should be controllable and effective (4) long shots down the line is too slow (5a) CPU makes unrealstic shots even when it's off balance. (5b) also, often times, the areas the CPU hit don't make much "tennis" sense. For example after I make a great shot in the corner or near the sidelines and catch the CPU off balance, it still manages to make fast shots down the line, unusually often. (6) need a real tournament mode (7a) provide incentives. Ex, increase stats of a user created player, unlockable rackets, courts (7b) a career mode would be a great solution to the above.

TouchSports Tennis 09 - needs an update

This is a very well designed game with intuitive, easy controls, nice graphics and well balanced difficulty levels. However, the problem is that it is too limited in the choice of game. There are only 2 game modes, quick play and 'tournament'. However, what 'tournament' actually gives you is a longer version of quick play (more sets, more games per set etc.). What would improve the game to 5 stars would be a full tournament mode (quarter-finals, semi-finals, final etc.), and online multiplayer, to increase the replay value and add a more competitive side to the game. And, of course new players and new courts would always be welcome!

The graphics are stunning for such a simple and inexpensive app. They alone make this game very good. The controls for the gameplay is easy and the difficulties really make a difference. However, this game is so simple, it makes it less fun than it could be.
My suggestions:
1) ad the ability to hit very hard. It could be a powerup of some sort, but controls could be to flick the iPhone forward.
2)Also, lobbing it by flipping the iPhone back towards you. This would make the game more complex and more fun to play.
3) More people to give more variety in each game
4) More courts because these graphics are so great and I really want to see more
These would make this game the "must have" tennis game in the app store.
