A great money saving app that makes a ton of sense By: Clay Newton - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 3.0 You've probably experienced this: You roll into the corner gas station, fill up and as you drive away, you notice that less than a block away the gas is $.50 less a gallon. Totally frustrating, and with Cheap Gas! it's totally unneccessary. This app uses your location (as determined automagically by the iPhone) to list the cheapest gas available in your proximity. Because it uses data from GasBuddy.com, it's continually updated with local information. With version 3.0, Cheap Gas! even includes Cyclops, an augmented reality (AR) view! AR blends the view from your iPhone camera with data from the service, overlaying the station information on top of your street view. Super easy to use; actually makes life cheaper.
BRAVO!!! By: Scrapper55 - Jul 24, 2009 Version: 2.031 Today's fix really did fix this app AND improved it. It's finally worthy of 5 stars in my book. I especially like the addition of being able to tap the blue locator pin and getting your exact location including the approximate street address. The map link has been fixed. Helpful hint - in case you need to add a station you can easily find the exact street address byalso downloading the free app called Around Me. Since it's not user dependant all local stations are usually listed.
I really like the latest update to the free version that allows users to input current prices and add new stations - however, there are several bugs in this operation. Even tho you get a message saying your input was accepted and posted, on only one occasion was my new information properly posted. Even the next day it didnt post my changes, and by then it usually changed again anyway. Also, I just checked current prices around me, and the postings indicate current as of today at 14:00 hours (military time, that's fine) except that it's only noon! If it's posting a different time zone that needs to be fixed also. Postings should reflect local time. Prices around here can change hourly sometimes twice a day and correct time is relevant.
UPDATE June 12: I figured out the secret to being able to update. First go to gasbuddy.com and create a user account. Then go to 'settings' on your iPhone. Scroll down and your various apps will have setting options. Click into the settings for cheap gas and enter your user ID and password. Then restart your phone. Now when you enter a price update your account is found and the updates accepted.
THIS APP IS COMPLETELY USER DEPENDANT! There is no conspiracy!! Users have to update stations in their area. No update, station is delisted.

User By: FLTigerboy - Jan 31, 2009 Version: 1.9 Very good app overall. Performs quick with good cell signal. Reports up to date prices that are no older than 48 hours old. (If prices are older, the gas station won't be listed.) Good tie in to GPS mapping app on iPhone. Can search by zip code for areas you may be traveling to. Best use will come in big city areas.
Shortcomings:
1. It relies on user input from gasbuddy.com web site. Problem is that no one in your area may be reporting prices, or that someone reports the wrong price (either accidentally or on purpose). Highly recommend checking out the web site first to see if your area has people reporting prices. Even better: become a member and start reporting prices (membership not required to view or report prices).
2. As yet, you cannot add or edit a price from the app (future enhancement in work?).
3. You must know zip code to search areas away from your current location. It would be nice when traveling to just enter a city/state instead.
4. Cannot search along a route. For example, if I'm using the map app to generate a route say from Miami to NYC, it would be great if the this app could list all the cheap prices reported along tie in to map app route so I could plan where to by the cheapest gas.
Useful and Smart By: SDWalle - Dec 22, 2008 Version: 1.8 Cheap gas is part of my trio of travel apps (Trapster and Zagat are the other two). I wish I had this when 4 dollar gas was the norm but if I had to pick I'd go with cheaper gas over the app! Never used the website that goes with this app so the requests for logging into that site don't apply and I think that goes for most. The one tweak I would make is figuring out how to get a large enough radius to cover long trips. It might be worth a small price since the app pays for itself.
Alright By: bfig88 - Oct 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.0.0 I give it a four star because this is the first app that makes sense for gas prices it shows a list, quick and easy way to search. The reason why it got 4 and not 5 because it doesn't help me out to much cause I drive a tdi, so please add an option to change grade u would like. Another thing that would be nice is an option to expand your area from say 5 miles to 50. And to make it the best app make be able to see the gas stations on a map, like gasbag! But you nailed it on the concept!
Good, almost great By: 24hJK - Oct 2, 2009 Version: 3.0 Here are some ideas to make it great:
1) include costco gas stations or at least an option to include them
2) have a listing price of gas with car wash, sometimes the low price is with car wash. Instead have a seperate display to make it easy
3) should be able to sort by gas type, I like you can sort by price and location
Other then that it's a great free app and I would higly recommend if you gas up at least once a week
Needs work but good for the price By: TShipp - Aug 3, 2009 Version: 2.031 When I first got this app, I almost deleted it and gave it one star because it kept crashing and when it did work, it would not show stations anywhere near me. The most recent update fixed a lot of the bugs. I don't get crashes anymore and the proximity to the stations is a lot better. However, it still drops stations. What I mean is I can open it one time and see the station right around the corner. The next time I open it, that station is no longer on the list. I like being able to update the prices of the pumps and it only takes a few minutes for them to show up. My biggest complaint now is the dropping stations and the fact that I have to refresh periodically to get it to find where I am at. I am running this on a 3GS.
Entry errors By: dkxkvtr - Jul 8, 2009 Version: 2.03 I like this program but currently there is a bug that does allow correct uploading of data from my 3GS. Whenever I update from the iPhone the data is corrupted with % 20 in place of a space in the address line of the station being updated. This happens everytime on simple price updates. If the same data in updated on a pc it is flawless. Gas Buddy is deleting entries from iPhones. I'm sure some programmer will fix this bug soon.
Good Replacement for GasBuddy on the road, but Needs Work By: ADobkin - Jul 3, 2009 Version: 2.03 This is a good app for free and is a big improvement over the mobile version of the GasBuddy web site. I mainly use it to check and update prices for my local version of GasBuddy.com. Aside from that, it needs some work. There have been many reports of updates getting lost, not appearing on the web site, etc. I won't reiterate what other reviewers have said here, but these problems need to be fixed so we have an easy and dependable way to check and update/report gas station prices.

Works good for the price By: Litlbitartsy - Jun 5, 2009 Version: 2.02 I live in a small town and this app is very accurate. It lists the stations from cheap prices to higher prices. I always put my zipcode in as a search and it brings the local stations up everytime. I'm in Nashville right now visiting and it has really come in handy here. The only problem I have is that after it locates the stations it doesn't stay on long enough for me to get the address written down. The price is right and I recommend it.
