Reviews:
Exceptional app By: Rustyness - 08-Apr-2009 Version: 1.0.1 This app is brilliant. Runs the same as the desktop version but without 3D buildings and a few other small additions. You can, however, tilt your iPod to change the viewing angle and do all of the finger pinch and rotate manouvers available for iPods. Some people just expect too much from the iPod. This is a 5 star app, no question about it. The features missing would just impair usability and the iPod wouldn't be able to run properly with them.
The World in Your Hand By: dantv - Oct 27, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 Google Earth for the iPhone. Way cool! The maps have been optimized to load surprisingly fast. Autotilt takes some getting used to but adds a whole new dimension to Google Earth. At the risk of sounding ungrateful for such a slick app, it would be great if the next rev could include a mechanism for us to access our Google Earth/Pro accounts to invoke our saved places. That would be wicked cool. If you are into Google Earth, you will love this app.
its so weird but cool at the same time. By: Goodcharlottefreak - Nov 9, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 i was really bored one day so my mom showed me this. (i already knew that we had this on our computer but i never really looked at it.) so when my mom showed me this.i mean.it was just flatout weird.like i typed in my sisters city and her street.and they show all these camereas.and one showed her street.and we cliked on it.and it showed her house close up! right to her window. i think this so cool.buy it.
Fantastic and free! By: Ukotranto - 27-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.0 Looking at some priced software on here and then seeing that this is free certainly puts everything in a new light. Put simply there are a lot of rip offs around. Fortunately the good folk at google are charitable and bless our iPhones with this useful app.
You may want to turn the horizon accelerometer off though as it can be a bit of a nuisance as most people won't operate their phones completely horizontally.
Nice one google!
A very impressive first cut By: Lazlo Nibble - Jun 21, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I've been using desktop Google Earth since the Keyhole days and would never have thought I'd be able to cram it into my pocket, but here it is. It's clearly an early iteration (no KML support, a very thin selection of layers) and doesn't make much of a mapping app (not even any road labels yet), but the 3D terrain imagery -- the reason GE exists in the first place -- looks great. The multitouch controls are a lot more intuitive than the desktop version's, and even better, actually seem to get you around faster. The app is nice and snappy on my 2nd gen Touch, but that's obviously over WiFi -- it's probably not as smooth when it has to squeeze all that bitmap data through a 3G connection. I'm looking forward to the inevitable updates...!
Holy Awesome, Batman!!! By: Fart Particles - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This is by far the most awesome app i have for my ipod touch. Seriously...the exact features of Google Earth (minus streetcam and 3-D buildings...update, anyone?) I have used this app many a time in my latin class that teaches me nothing, as my substance-abuser teacher (most likely, anyway) lives in Google Earth, and lets us students see places on our smartboards at our school. However, he ususally spends 45 minutes on one stupid ancient place...so i take a look around with this app! Can't really go wrong here!
those single star raters must be inbred!!! By: fergnshire - Nov 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 this app is almost better than the pc version, it has never crashed on me and ive drained my battery numerous times zooming down from space onto the top of all my friends houses. ive zoomed in on the pyramid hotel in vegas and the tilted the iphone up and toured all of vegas in great detail. for those who are to stupid, because their parents are brother and sister, just restart your iphone and it WONT CRASH anymore. retards.
A-frickin-mazing By: jbrandonf - Mar 5, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I love the word frickin.
Anyway, this is a great little app for showing off the iPhone, not much use unless I want to see satellite images of the planet. Works best over wifi.
For people who have problems with crashing, restart the iPhone/iPod after installing. If that doesn't work trying deleting it off of the device deleting it from iTunes, then redownloading the app from iTunes and installing from iTunes. If that doesn't work..then hell, you're SOL.
Needs Some Minor Adjustments, But... By: gillboyswims96 - Nov 7, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 It's still the best, and coolest, way to look at maps and waste time, and I'm glad it's finally on my iPod. The app is currently outstanding, and I've had no problems whatsoever. I do have some small suggestions for 1.1 that are in the desktop version though:
•3D Buildings Support - arguably one of the coolest features in Google Earth, it fits right in with the iPhone's multitouch user interface.
•Paths/Lines, Areas - A major feature missing that would add realms of functionality hitherto unseen before on iPhone.
•Flight Simulator - It's a small one, also in the desktop vesion, but it would be even cooler to fly around real earth instead of fake earth like in Flight Simulator (PC game).
•Street View - If it's coming for firmware 2.2 in the Maps app, there's no reason that this shouldn't be equal to that in functionality.
•Google Sky - Also a cool part of the desktop version that would be cool to see on iPhone.
Lastly, where is native Google Talk for iPhone? That's all I'd need to be addicted.
Good app By: go98 - Feb 4, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Great app, get it. This review Is to say that although they suggest you restart the phone if you are experiencing problems, they say to press both buttons for 10 seconds. This will work, bit it is the emergency shutdown feature, and you may lose data. Instead, hold the lock button down for three or so seconds, then confirm with a slider. The loading symbol will show for a few seconds before shutdown, and you won't lose data. Hih, again great app. Maybe they could also add the moon???

The whole world in your hands!!! By: King David 2.0 - Oct 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 Works and feels so much better than Earthscape. Don't want to be a hater. Just telling it like it is. I originally bought Earthscape a month ago when it was priced at $4.99 and was pretty disappointed. I knew that the iphone could do better and here it is. Google Earth is exactly what you would expect it to be. It even suprised me a little with how quickly the image would render on 3g. All in all, this is the real deal. Most of all its FREE!!!!
BEST APP EVER!!! By: Alex McLean - 22-Nov-2009 Version: 2.0.0 You can see the whole world! You can zoom in and out! You can see stuff 3d!!!! It is just like the computer vertion!! It is free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this app was £15 i would still buy it! No other app compares to it! The only problems: 1. Needs the star map like on the desktop version. 2. Would be good if you could put pins on things like on the desktop vertion. 3. Would be good if you could use the ruler tool with the path mode like on the desktop version. Conclution: get it! what have you got to loose! (it's free!)
WOW By: Maddie <333 - Nov 6, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 This is an amazing aplication! Love how u can get a good idea of an area or see more details to coordinate with directions, very helpful. I tried to use it to see how long the poll line was but I think it is only updated once a day? Would be great if we could get an option for real time shot along with the once a day update incase it was night time and you needed to see the area for direction purposes. I do have to say that I may not want this option to update on real time due to security reasons. Scarey that someone might be able to use this application to see if your car is in the drive way so they could tell if you were home or not. Please keep our security in mind as you develop this application to help not harm ;). I like how u zoom in enough to give general view without invading our privacy or allowing the whole world real time access to our front and back yard. Dangerous and scarey to think that you or your children can be stalcked and not know it with this app. Would like to think you have security checks that trigger an alert if a private residence is being stalked or a school or daycare Thanks for a wonderful app!
Yeehhhh By: Iwashighwheniwritethis - 17-Nov-2009 Version: 2.0.0 Good app, I can tell how old the pictures are because I can see my old car outside my house with for sale signs on it!Nice way to show off your iPhone by letting friends type their postcode and see views of their house, they love it!Ur doin it google sik app gwan!!On the update when your zoomed in you can tilt your phone towards you and it will show a further view from that point. Not because it's unstable as someone else wrote, hold your hand still! And I just noticed the pictures are different from those on maps app street view. People sayin these pictures are too old and update the app, so google is going to photograph the entire earth again just for you? Be happy for how it is!The apps sik if you don't have it, get it!
Fantastic! By: Adwhisky - 06-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0.0 Excellent app, no idea why people would give this such an awful score. Did not crash with me and works a dream, even on a pathetic signal in cornwall. Excellent control system that is very intuitive. A review on here said that all the pics are 4 years old! Threw all his toys out the pram, cried and sucked his thumb franticly. What exactly do you expect? An up to date image day by day? thats not likely unless your a satellite technician for Nasa or Mi6 so make do like all of us other mere mortals. The idea of having the world in your pocket is a bed wettingly sensual concept and here it is! 10 years ago you would of laughed at the idea of google earth, 8 years ago laughed at a camera and a colour screen on a phone?! Now this is here and people complain? Take the spoon out of your mouth and enjoy, I did.
Free iPhone 3G App Review: Google Earth By: iPhone 3G Software Reviews Blog - Nov 25, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 Google Earth has proven to be one of Google’s most popular products and why not? If you’ve ever installed it on your PC or Mac you already know what fun it is to zoom around and check out various places on the planet including your own current location. Well now you can do the same thing right on your iPhone 3G. Google Earth for iPhone 3G is a free download from the app store that weighs in at a petite 8.9MB. The application lets you zoom around and view the same aerial and satellite imagery found in the desktop version. And Google Earth for the iPhone goes beyond what the desktop version can do by utilizing multi-touch on the iPhone. While all of the feature sets sound great how well does Google Earth perform on the iPhone wireless connections? Well I’m happy to say that it works very well! I tested Google Earth on my wi-fi connection at home and I tested it while out and about connected only via AT&T’s Edge connection. The wi-fi connection was obviously significantly faster in terms of data loading and that is to be expected. But I was quite surprised to find how usable Google Earth was on just an Edge connection. Data loaded at a tolerable speed and didn’t seem a whole lot slower than using wi-fi. Note that I did not test it on a 3G connection because we don’t get 3G in our area yet. THE GREATEST APP OF ALL TIME!!!!!!! By: Cozora - Oct 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 This app is amazing! It really does not need internet at all. When I was riding home from work and turned on Google Earth, I wanted to see if it can find my location without WiFi (I have an iTouch). So, I turned it on and it literaly found me while I was driving on the road! I was shocked as it showed where I was all the way home. No WiFi, so I guess it was satalite. It was just amazing. All iTouch owners should try it! THANK YOU SO MUCH GOOGLE!

You have to give this app 5 stars!!!! By: dirtymag - Oct 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 First of all this works very smooth. It has wiki for almost every habitable location. It's freak'n GOOGLE EARTH!!!! Let me say it again IT's GOOGLE EARTH!!! You don't need a globe this has it. You don't need a geographical encyclopedia "ATLAS" this has it. You just need a good hi-speed connection!! Oh, and if your ipod can't take it try to SYNC less apps!! It helps believe in me...I think some app's may interfere with one another.
It's A Great App. By: Jesse Corporation - Jan 28, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I have a hard time discribing this app. It's good but has some bad points. This app is great on wifi but unless you live close to a fairly big city and have 3G it doesn't work so well. It has every function that your regular "MAPS" has. And as for crashing...I have had this app for 3 months. And I use it a lot probably every day. Not one Crash NOT ONE. And here is a little trick to fix that. Make sure you at hooked up to a wireless network point and DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN. Get this app. It can pinpoint your exact location. I walked out into my yard and it followed me. Some people don't like that when you tilt the iPod on landscape it tilts the screen up. Just go to options and turn that off.
Hope that helps.
