So far I've only tried it once but it showed me my exact location. Shows map view and google street view, I saw a picture of my house! I was in my driveway connected via wifi home network and it was very accurate. Entered a rarely used non-iphone email address so thieves wouldn't be alerted, but if they went to the iphone general settings tab you can see this app's settings there and see the email address and figure out what it does. An alternate use: Great for mapping/logging your locations from a trip. I LOVE THIS APP!

Firstly, I have to respond to all the reviews stating the app is not accurate. 2 things if they use the phone in an area where the gps will not work then the iPhone will have to resort to using mobile phone towers to triangulate it's location which is not as accurate as gps. This is a limit of current technology and not the software or even the iPhone. I tested the software a few times and was pleased by how quickly it sent the email. The accuracy was as good as maps application showed, so I am convinced that most users dissatisfied with accuracy do not understand how the iPhone locates itself. SUGGESTIONS: After the first few location updates that are sent out, have the camera take a picture and send that also. When showing loading pics: It should show some album titles that would make the thief very curious: such as "Heather and I: hot tub", or "Heather and I in our bikinis.". I say this as most likely the thief will be a young male:-) Side note: this can also be useful for telling parents where their kids are. Parents call kids and tell them to open the private-I app. If you have the email setup for the parents email address then they get a location of the kids, no more lies:-) Hmmm... Could be a good app "Teenager tracker" Really like the app, thanks!

I was amazed at how accurate this was considering that I do not have GPS. Some reviewers voiced concerns about the thief's ability to see the email that tells the phone's location. Here's a tip for gmail users:
Set up a filter on your gmail account that has messages from "privateiphonefinder" , or with the subject "Your Phone Has Been Found", skip the inbox. The thief would be unlikely to find the messages stating his location if they are not in the inbox.

Skeptics say that this app may not work... well, I'm more willing to risk $1 on the chance that my future iPhone thief may touch the "PRIVATE" icon on my iPhone. The GPS accuracy is fine. So, if you happen to have your iPhone lifted by someone you know, the location tip would likely be all you'd need to be able to figure out who it was. My only complaints are that the title below the thumbnail still says "Private-I" and the icon itself doesn't necessarily lend itself to be convincing. IE: Would YOU want to protect your private items under "PRIVATE"? Something tells me it's almost TOO obvious, but... other than that, it's great!!!

I dont know what you guys are talking about....

This app is amazing, for the 99c worth i mean c mon .... it is the best thing you can get to actually have atleast something if you loose your phone i mean you will have hope for sure hahaha but why not hope AND private-i ????

When i first installed the app i had the same problem with the ocean next to africa z;).... im not gonna lie, i was a little upset but i emailed the developer and the guy got to me in less then a day, i mean how fast is that ?? I told him about the issue and now its ALL FIXED. I checked it try the app 5 times and its all working........ he is on his game........
you cant get better for a buck... give it a try

Good job man, tested it out just now and works a treat. Hopefully anyone that ever steals my phone isn't up to date with this app. I'm looking forward to Apple letting programs like this run in the background so that the thief doesn't have to do anything but walk around with the phone while we locate it on a website or something. Also, maybe you could add interchangable icons to this so that even if the thief does know what "Private-I" is, they still wouldn't know that they're opening it.

Works as described with excellent accuracy. It would be even better if we could customise the icon or application name (e.g. change Private-I to Passwords or something).
Those of you in Australia who are having issues with the GPS ... I've also seen similar behavior as you on both Vodafone and Optus (not on Telstra). Have you tried with other GPS applications e.g. Maps, Twinkle to see if you have the same issue? Every now and then the GPS tells me I'm in Sydney (close to Vodafone's HQ in Chatswood). I think the Assisted-GPS is getting some duff location data from Voda/Optus.

28/11/08 those with negative reviews, have you upgraded to iphone firmware latest ver 2.2. Reviewers Why are not leaving good reviews. This program works excellent and recovers your iphone which is worth it, piece of mind for little money.
Private-I Pinpoints exact location, suburb, state, street house number as well. i clicked on email link in email client which sent from my phone from private-i application,clicked view, its showed even a picture of my house. Excellent.

Update!!!!,this app works fine since the update on nov 21 1st~this app isnt so accurate, I launched the app from my apartment and its been off once by a block north of my location and the second time it was a block south off and my other issue is this~when I 1st put in my email addy I put one in the is programed into my iphone so when I went to change to a email addy the the iphone doesnt download it took that email down but still sends emails to the original addy plus the new one I put in. If the developer could address these issues that would be great cuz this app is so worth 0.99

congratulation to the author, THIS IS A BRILLIANT little app. it works quicky and easily and there's absolutely NO DOUBT the thief will be tempted to push that 'private' button!!! really good idea, EVERYONE SHOULD BUY THIS.
Only tiny criticism is that the written screen name "private-i" which appears underneath,may rIse suspicions and should be lost. but tiny criticism.
simple but great app, ignore the silly email criticism above,which rudely suggests the author is a thief!

Just bought this app. This pin pointed the phone location exactly. I recommended this to all my friends. The only thing from keeping it from 5 stars is that it doesn't look very enticing to open the app and doesn't give much reason to wait til it's done 'loading'. Honestly it's mostly guys who have iPhones so make it look like porn or something sexual and that should be a sure fire way to have them open the app and thinking they will see dirty pics will make them wait for it to 'load'
