A valuable app for traveling

This was a very useful application when I was traveling Italy in May 2009. Using my iPod touch, it allowed me to easily check schedules whenever I had access to an open wireless network. It would give me the available times as well as the expected cost, so it really saved me from having to spend time at an Internet cafe or compete for computer time in the hostel. I was fortunate to get the app early when it was free, but with any decent amount of traveling, the time you save will be realized very quickly. The schedules it provided were exactly the same as I found at the train station kiosks.

As I say in the title,excellent. I have used this is UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium. Performed brilliantly. Even produced boat connections for me in Germany and Switzerland, presumably via the D Bahn website. In some countries, pricing info is also included. Shame that previously viewed detail can't be viewed off-line, but I just take a snapshot of each screen and re-view in photos. This is a real app.
Suggested improvements: view saved info off-line, better route maps, add links to national rail websites (such as http://www.sbb.ch).

I use this app regularly to check train times from my town to the nearest city (only about 6 miles away) and it has always been reliable. It was only when I was planning my first long-distance rail journey that I realized how useful this app actually is. It tells you where your changes are and all the stops along the way, and it also tells you what will be available on the train (food-wise) which is a nice extra feature. The only thing I would like to see added is the option to view which platform your train leaves from, then it would be flawless. If ticket prices were available that would be amazing, but I think that would just slow it down and would probably be prone to inaccuracies and errors. Overall, a great app!

This app is excellent! I am heading to Europe in May and it has helped with my eurail planning! To the previos reviewer and others.. You need to use the proper name for each city you are looking up (I.e. Venezia not Venice). Also, if you search for a route at 9am that is all it shows you so if you want to see earlier or later times you need to change your search criteria. There are many train stations in certain cities so make sure you are searching for the right one. If you do not know the full name just put in a partial spelling and the program will give you some options. Anyways, love this app!

Thanks to the author, who has created a means of at least finding out possible routes without having to negotiate full-screen websites. No one app will make your mind up for you, but this is so useful when seeing how you or someone else might travel. This is a fine example of how iPhone can become a really genuine timesaver that will make others jealous when they realise you have the info at your fingertips.

This is one extremely well thought out bit of software. I'm a heavy train user, who frequently needs to reroute and retime on route (thanks to the delays that come free with any purchase of a UK train ticket), and this is just what I need. Gives you details of three journeys around the time you choose, one click details of all onroute changes, and even one click mapping of the stations. One request would be to add a "route from nearest station" or "find my nearest station" option, which tied into the GPS.

Using this app and my EurRail pass I was able to get around europe without a problem. Even when trains crossed borders and carriers, iRail's slick interface and 100% accurate scheduling optimized my schedule far faster than I could have with just time tables.
Kudos to John, this app is worth 10x what I paid!

This is a great application. I just returned from a journey around Europe where we used the train daily. The schedules are accurate and VERY helpful. I highly recommend this application if you plan to use the train in Europe.

most of the one-star reviewers are complaining it doesn't do live updates. they might pause for a minute and think how IMPOSSIBLE such an app would be to implement. this is the brick of the whole eurorail timetable in your pocket. totally rocks.

I got this wen it was FREE and it's superb does all my train routes across the uk and it saved me the five pounds I wud have to spend on the national rail version which is outrageous. I also think it's a shame that this app had to be made into a pay app because NR wanted commison greedy B ***tards

Brilliant app - not the msot beautiful, but it does exacty what it's designed to do. I can put in any departure and destination combos and so far (I've had it for a few months now) it's been bang on every time. Has never crashed, and is, for my needs at least, a much cheaper way to find out about trains than the £5 national rail one... Download it now!

Jeez, there are some dumb people out there. This is NOT a live online timetable, but a replacement for the huge paper timetables which we used to use to plan European travel - AS IT SAYS IN THE INTRODUCTION FOR THE APP.

Really good. Easy to use, up to date departures and arrivals. Tells up where and when you need to change towards your destination. Saves your routes and destinations without having to type it in again and again. Must buy, worth the money!!!
