Description:
PDX Bus is an application that displays arrival times for public transport in Portland, Oregon.
This little application uses the Internet to quickly access TriMet's live tracking data to display arrival times perfectly formatted for the iPhone. It allows you to bookmark frequently used stops, displays recently accessed stops, and gives details for arrivals which are en-route.
You can enter the stop "id" of the stop (as displayed at each stop or station) or you can browse the routes for the stop.
It also works with embedded Google maps, showing locations of stops, and when available, the last known position of the bus or train.
Now includes a "Nighttime visibility flasher" - a flashing screen that can be used at night so that drivers can see you. TriMet suggests holding up a cell phone to make yourself visible to bus drivers.
The latest update also includes Trip Planning - now you can use the same trip planning feature that is available on their web site.
Route and arrival data provided by permission of TriMet.
Note: this free application was developed as a volunteer effort to provide a service for TriMet riders, the developer has no affiliation with TriMet, AT&T or Apple. Suggestions and feedback are welcome.

This app has a good interface, and the developer is very accessible and listens to suggestions. The data all the apps use is the same, PDX Bus has a good solid easy to use interface, and works well. Highly recommended.
2.0 update is Brilliant. The ability to edit bookmarks makes it perfect. The better integration with google maps is nice. The night flash is a genius idea.
Best transit app by far!

If you want to use public transportation around the Portland, OR area, then this is the program you're looking for. It is a wealth of information about all things TriMet -- seemlessly integrates TriMet's real-time arrival info (and website) with Twitter updates, route planning, bookmarks, and maps.
Easy to use. Fully featured. Accurate.
This is what all iPhone apps should dream to be!
And did I mention free?

PDXbus makes getting around on TriMet easier. It's basically a iPhone-optimized version of the TriMet website in your pocket, designed for use on the street. The Streetcar, WES, and new MAX Green Line are included and all info is as fresh as TriMet makes it.
I've had this app since release and it's had useful and consistent updates. To get the most from it, check the "Tips" section and be sure to configure your settings -- some of the power isn't apparent until you dig in. So long as TriMet keeps their info free and online, all you have to do is click "Update Stop Location Database" a few times a year and you'll have current info on the bus, train, and streetcar anywhere you have a cell signal.
This kind of useful application is what makes the iPhone worthwhile!
Simple interface, quick access to nearest transit

This app is one of those "well, duh" uses for the iPhone, but the implementation is very simple, and it's a quick glance to find out when and where your next ride is going. Having a beer with friends and need to catch the MAX home? Don't chug that last beer and hurry to the stop only to learn you've got 8 more minutes. Savor your pint, say your goodbyes, and stroll to the stop with confidence you didn't just miss your train and are forced to wait a whole 14 more minutes at the stop. Excellent addition developer! Thanks.

This is probably the most well designed applet I've ever used. Very clean, thoughtfully laid out, and reliable. The bookmarking feature makes this app, IMO. No more manually storing them as web page bookmarks from
Trimet's site! Also, this must be a newer version because trip planning is on it! You can even email the plans to yourself for later. Just amazing. Well worth 5 stars. Charge a buck or two for this, developers! You've earned it.
Simple and solid

It's an extremely simple app, but that's exactly what you want in a bus timetable. It doesn't have superfluous animations. It has a clean interface. It's quick to find what you are looking for. Bookmarking particular stops that you frequent saves a huge amount of time. The ability to pull up a route's webpage (specifically, with regard to viewing maps) in an integrated web browser is a nice touch for those routes you don't frequently take. I've used Tri-Met's iPhone formatted website, and this application blows that webapp away.

I wish there was more that could be said about how excellent this app is, but I really can't come up with more. It basically works like the call in system that Tri-met has for finding out when the next train/bus is coming. Except that its much faster and way more convenient. I have all my usual stops bookmarked and can find out in a matter of seconds when the next train is coming. About the only feature I can ask for is to integrate Trimet.org's trip planner, but honestly I don't need that.

No need to call TriMet and get trapped in their menu tree or be required to recall a dozen Stop ID numbers. This app does it all for you in a visual interface that's easy to set up and bookmark your most needed stops. Wandered a bit too far from your usual haunts? This app will locate you and tell you where the closest stops are. Best implementation of TriMet's tracking system and a visual interface yet.

This works like a charm. If you have a regular bus or several it's a quick way to plan when you need to leave in order to catch it. It's not the app to use if you need something to plan your trip for you (which is a feature I would love) but it's perfect for those of us who need a super fast way to check how things are running at our favorite stops. It's even faster than the phone service that Trimet provides!

As a daily Trimet commuter (often multiple times per day), this app is stellar; it beats having to memorize stop IDs and having to call Trimet!
Though it would be delightful to have a more intuitive bookmarking feature, it's truly a minor flaw.
No iPhone-wielding commuter should be without this!

I really love this app. It was exactly what I needed.
The only suggestion I would have is to change the icon. The pastels don't really go with anything else....
