TripView displays Sydney Train/Bus/Ferry timetable data on your phone. It features a summary view showing your next services, as well as a full timetable viewer. All timetable data is stored on your phone, so it does not require any network access.
Notes:
- TripView supports multiple bus routes / train lines in the same trip. Just edit the trip, click on the line name, and select additional lines as necessary.
- If you're going to leave a review claiming that the timetable is not accurate, please email me with details so that I can fix it. Timetable accuracy is my highest priority, and as far as I'm aware the data is 100% accurate, so if you do find a problem - I want to know about it. Thanks!
- For more news and updates, follow me on twitter at http://twitter.com/nickmaher
Features:
- Define trips using presets (source/destination/lines)
- Multi-segment trips (can mix trains/buses/ferries)
- Auto route calculation for train trips
- Summary view allows you to scroll through all matching trips for the week, showing ETA and arrival/departure times
- Route editor lets you edit or extend a trip (e.g. change at a different station)
- Reverse a trip by tapping the station names in the title
- Scrolling blue "plasma" indicator display
- Full browseable timetable
- Get directions to nearest stations, using GPS (trains only)
- Automatically selects weekday/weekend timetable
- Supports services that only run on select days (e.g. late night friday/saturday)
- Supports all suburban and intercity CityRail services
- Displays special stop flags (e.g. pickup / setdown only)
- Where trains proceed from one line to another, timetables are seamlessly merged (e.g. North Shore and Northern Line)
- All views update in real time
- Information on train delays from CityRail
- Small application size (~2MB including all timetable data)
- Timetable updates can be downloaded from within the app
NOTE: Timetable data is derived from the web based timetables, so it does not take into account any delays, cancellations, or trackwork. Best efforts are taken to ensure timetable accuracy, but no guarantees are made. If you find an error in the timetable, please email contact@grofsoft.com with details, and it will be fixed in the next release.
Known issues:
- All trains on the plasma display are currently shown as "8 Cars" and "Limited Stops"
- Note that not all bus trips are reversible, because the stop names in the opposite direction are sometimes different.
- No support for public holidays or trackwork

98% sure it's the best app ever.  rating of TripView Sydney
By: Afaridan - 01-Aug-2009
Version: 1.6
Ok so iv driven everywhere for the past 10 years. Hadn't caught a bus or train in over 10 years. I lost my licence so now I rely on this heavily. This thing is very very accurate. I plan my day perfectly. From what bus from what station. What train goes where and even which station I need to change at. And also. This timetable isn't scratched or or covered in some kids graffiti. Buy this. You will not regret it. Soo easy to use. Only negative is that there is no info on private buses. But give it time it will prob come.

Very polished app  rating of TripView Sydney

This is one of the best executed, most polished apps I have used on the iPhone. It is incredibly useful, has a simple, yet powerful and intuitive interface and works perfectly every time. It has certainly earned it's place on my home screen. I highly recommend this app to anyone who regularily uses public transport in Sydney. Brilliant, earns all five stars from me! Worth every cent, and then some.

Elegant, simple and feature packed  rating of TripView Sydney

I rely heavily on public transport as it accounts for around 90% of my travel so this application was a great find! It supports everything that other similar applications support but does it so much better whilst looking better at the same time. It also comes at a reasonable price so even if you don't use public transport it's something that's handy to have when you do need it. I would love to see public holiday support implemented and also a page that shows all the current trackwork.

One of the best apps extremely very handy!!  rating of TripView Sydney

Well done keep it up! also would be great to not only have Sydney city bus timetable but to also have south western bus timetable as well eg Liverpool area if you have consider in fixing it up that would be much appreciate other then that good job! 

Excellent!  rating of TripView Sydney

I've tried all other train apps and this is by far the best! This is the only custom app on my first screen. It would be great if you can submit a train delayed so other commuters can easily get instant feedback. I tried the lite app and quickly bought the full version. For those of you saying it's not worth paying for: you are missing the point. This developer has put in time and effort to build this awesome app. And he even provided a free version, fully functional, except for saving trips. Also people are commenting that it doesn't do return trips. Just click on the title and you'll get the reverse trip! Connecting trains are also easily added. The interface is amazing.

Trip View 1.4  rating of TripView Sydney
By: Jonafn - 09-May-2009
Version: 1.4
Using this app daily on the commute to work and proves to be a winner over paper timetables!
Hope to see these features in the app
- newly revised Hills Bus region 4 bus routes in the app.
- Indicator board - There should be some indication of where to change trains when a multi line trip is selected.
- Also saved trips involving a change of lines can have dual colour e.g red and yellow in a box from nth line to wst line and reverse etc - This would make saved trips easier to find
- Trip colour on Sydney buses can be blue and white according to their livery which is more appealing than grey
Overall this is a great app for anyone who uses public transport!

Great Sydney public transport app!  rating of TripView Sydney

Thanks for this, been looking for a fast loading and easy access to my bus and train timetable! I've found it a pain to carry a pdf around to check my times on the iPhone. Pinching my iPhone in the dark whilst waiting for a bus at a stop that has no timetable hasn't been fun! Have been looking fwd to this port from my old Nokia (yes I carried my old Nokia around just to check my train schedule!)
Keep up the good work! Nice to see you've made it free for a bit, but well worth the previous $2.50 tag. :) A worthy 100x better successor to the Nokia GSM version.
Hope to see a fare calculator if possible in future versions.

The Best Timetable App Ever  rating of TripView Sydney
By: Dean Barnett - 16-Mar-2009
Version: 1.1
This app is simply amazing - anyone who lives in Sydney and uses public transport should get this app. It's the only app that I use daily!
The config is simple, the UI and layout are beautiful - the way iPhone apps should be.
Nick Maher (the developer) is kind, and open to all new ideas. He isn't going to take your money and run.
I can see this app being #1 in Aus, easily.

A must for every Sydneysider - commuters and daytrippers. Makes things easy. My favourite app!  rating of TripView Sydney
By: Curiousities - 11-Nov-2009
Version: 1.8
I regularly catch 3 different services in a single one-way trip (private bus, train, STA bus), this apps saves me 5-15 minutes checking and rechecking times and connections. Previously used this in conjunction with Hillsbus pdf timetables but this update eliminates that step. Still a few things this app can't do but most of those issues are to do with information provided by transport operators and the lack of a trip planner (ala 131500). Knowledge of the nuances of public transport helps but is not necessary.
You'll be surprised how often you use it. Try the lite version if you want but you'll soon find yourself buying the full version so that it remembers your trips. Very active and committed developer means timetables are always up to date and new features and improvements added.
The inclusion of private buses definitely makes this not only the best timetable app but also possibly the BEST app in the app store for any Sydneysider that ever catches public transport. I cannot speak highly enough of it. Whether a commuter or occasional daytripper, this app makes both simple and complicated trips easy.

A great app - useful & excellent GUI  rating of TripView Sydney
By: harborb - May 10, 2009
Version: 1.3
This is a must have app for commuters & travellers in Sydney. It's well designed, has lots of well thought out features and the attention to detail is terrific. This app uses the published timetables so be sure to check the official transport websites for any last minute service changes if your travel connections are vital. I have upgraded my earlier rating to 5 stars after checking some of the timetables to make sure they were accurate. Also, it would be great to see a diagram of the sydney rail & ferry network in a future release. Even more ambitious would be to include all private ferry & bus network timetables. That would make it a 6-star app!

Extremely Useful  rating of TripView Sydney

I downloaded this on a recent trip to Sydney, after trying the free version first. This application is well worth the price. Great idea, and well executed. I used this app several times per day. I even used it to help locals find the right bus on a couple of occasions.
My only gripe is that it doesn't support automatic routing where you can change to a different line or bus route.
Overall, I would recommend this app for anyone who uses public transport in Sydney.

The best on the market  rating of TripView Sydney
By: lfrohling - 05-Nov-2009

Quite simply the best- I have paid for two others and have countless lite versions of others but they have all been deleted. Trip Finder is king. It is updated all the time and is SO easy and useful and looks great. I just wish I could also find the price of a ticket too but I guess I can't have everything :) And now with the update I an select the stations from the map and the multiple-line trips are organized BRILLIANTLY. Awesome!!

Incredible app! Highly recommended  rating of TripView Sydney
By: TheBressman - 19-Sep-2009

This app is incredibly useful!
Where I used to have to go to a computer to check the CityRail website for the next train, or leave whereever I was early to ensure that I managed to catch a train only to just miss it, with this app the entire timetable is within a few finger presses and all without needing the Internet.
Kudos to the developers and good luck with the new timetable when it comes out!

Brilliant  rating of TripView Sydney

Best app I've used in a long time. In fact, I live by this thing. The train part is mere convenience, but the buses are a life saver, especially if I'm trying to go somewhere I haven't been before. So, no contest, this is the most useful app I have!
I know these are big asks, but I got a couple of things on my wishlist:-
- GPS for bus stops. I know you won't get any love from the STA, but what if users could submit GPS coordinates? That would give you a database of bus stop locations to add a map function, or integrate with the maps app.
- Reversable bus directions? Maybe that's not always possible, but it'd help!
- A map view to select bus stops. Perhaps a 'maps app' style route finder, but the route solves using public transport instead of driving
- Information about bus/train sections and areas. I use a blue weekly ticket, and it's not always clear where the areas end.
- A preference option to sort the bus/train/ferry listing by arrival time instead of departure time
- Other cities?

Soooo Good!!  rating of TripView Sydney

This app is awesome, if you're wondering whether to get the paid version or the free- get the paid, it's totally worth it. Saving your trips is heaps easier than searching every time and it supports the developer who's obviously put a lot of effort in to make so user friendly and accurate! Oh, and if the developer reads this: keep the icons the way they are because (contrary to a previous review) they look great! Simple and clean, nuff said!

Excellent  rating of TripView Sydney
By: [AU]Furyan - 12-Sep-2009
Version: 1.6
I use this app every time I take the train, fantastic application.
It would be nice if there was a way to save the train/ferry/bus schedule view for the time you choose vs. it defaulting to the train/ferry/bus closest to the current time. On long train rides I have to scroll back to the exact time I left to see the correct times for when I will arrive at different stops. The other request (if possible or it may be a bug) is to get the 'indicator' view to show the correct final destination. I was in the city last week and the train coming back to where I lived was tagged Normanhurst, but in the 'indicator' view is said Hornsby. Even with these minor issues, I love this application and recommend it to everyone who lives in Sydney and has an iPhone.

Very pleased- looking forward to future versions!  rating of TripView Sydney

I put off until now getting one of these transport apps, I didn't trust the accuracy. I was so impressed with the usability, design and performance of the Lite version that I purchased the full version hours later! I use buses, trains and ferries... and this has it all. The developer is very quick to address issues and help out with problems. Im left feeling confident that I can trust this app, and that it will only get better. There are some minor inconveniences, and they appear to be a problem with the transport agencies display of data, not the app. Only 4 stars because there is no 4.5 stars!

Nice and simple  rating of TripView Sydney
By: KINGLOUSE - 05-Apr-2009
Version: 1.1
All the other train apps looked way too over engineered, bloated with unnecessary features. This one keeps it simple, which is exactly what I wanted. The blue sceen is a nice touch, too. Also, it has a nice clean interface - very professional and clean. I hate it when a good app is spoiled with rough icons that look like they were made in MS Paint! I would like a way to categorize my saves into a "To" and "From", as most people generally travel to and from the same destinations anyway.

A major flaw  rating of TripView Sydney
By: Quilmne - 30-Oct-2009
Version: 1.7
This is one of the first applications that I have purchased. However I have found it very frustrating. The problem is that it has no "trip calculator engine" - that is, unlike the Cityrail website, it cannot calculate routes across several lines. An example is that I commute between two Sydney area stations. There is one train per day that does happen to touch the two stations. So the timetable between these stations has one entry per day. Further I'm on a loop line - by staying on the train, it will take me 1.25 hours to get to some stations, but by changing trains, it will take 10 mins.
With a calculation engine, this application would be great, it is nicely presented and easy to use. Shame that the output is useless...
