This was a little complicated to get working over 3G for me. But after checking out the Linksys forums it turned out to be a well known problem with my router and not anything with Air Video itself. I contacted the dev and he very politely walked me through the steps of getting it working (even though I was frustrated and acting like an Ahole). This app saves me many gigs of space on my phone. Highly recommended!

This software is fantastic. Loaded it on both my Iphone 3Gs and 2G Ipod Touch. Set up the server on a rather fast system (where I keep my movie collection). Have a Linksys router that wouldn't allow the correct UPnP, but upgraded the firmware from the Linksys site and all worked well. Set up the server folders and began testing. Have had the best luck with "LIve Conversion" option. Very litte buffering. Tested several videos via Wi-Fi with good results. Then left the Wi-Fi area and tried 3G steaming. I am totally amazed at the short buffering time and the high quality of the video. No problems at all. Tested several different movies, all with great results. I'm on the road a lot and spend too many night in hotels, etc. so this will bring relief from boring hotel TV. Keep up the good work, I don't know what upgrades you could make to this software, but I'm looking forward to the next version.

Excellent JIT conversion

The JIT ('just in time' or on-the-fly) conversion is in real-time and more importantly the quality is top notch for the iPhone's resolution. It makes Orb look like the slap-dash code it is over wi-fi also, regardless of previous posts. Put Orb & Air Live side by side and there is a huge difference. The only problem I see is the digital rights management... if the powers that be won't play ball and give a gifted coder the key to suspend encryption for the purposes of streaming ligitimate video on the server/computer, someone will take this code uncompile it and hack the DRM header. Why not work with this coder and help them offer a comprehensive product. If not, let the hackers do their job and put out a work around on cydia for the dispensation of DRM for the excellent product the author has put out.

Now I don't have to sync movies to my iPhone to play them on the big screen. With "Air Video" I have access to all my videos. I wish I knew about this app earlier. It would have saved me so much trouble this pass summer. A++ app, guys. It's apps like this that make it hard for me to leave my iPhone.A new addition to my "Air" apps, apps the integrate perfectly with my Mac. Air Sharing, Air Mouse, AirCam, AirPhones & (and now) AirVideo.

I am reiterating my review for a previous version - just keeps getting better and better. This app is a hidden jewel! I've been using it since version 1.0. It lets you stream video from servers on WiFi networks to your iPhone. This means no more making room on your iPhone or AppleTV, loading the movie you want to watch (wait for it to copy), then curling up with it to watch it. You have all the movies in your library readily available to you on your iPhone. Very very handy. Here's to hoping the developer will extent this concept to pictures also!

after plugging in my phone to my bedroom tv, i now have access to all the video on my mac! as you all know, video from the internet arrives in all shapes and sizes. this app streams all i've tried with no problem right to my bedroom tv. additionally, i tried out an 720p MKV video using live conversion... no problem streaming and displaying. i am very very impressed. like a macintosh application should be, it just works.

Easily the best video streaming solution out there. Orblive provides decent quality live-tv streaming you can't get here, but streaming of video files never worked for more than 10 minutes on my phone. Not only does Air Video have a much better UI, but the quality of video absolutely DESTROYS Orblive and it's extremely reliable to boot (and way cheaper)! I can't recommend it enough. I never thought I would get this quality of video, through AT&T's 3g network no less!

This app is awesome! Installed it and within minutes of downloading the server I was converting and watching videos on my phone! I've tried a lot of standalone video converters in the past, but they were all complicated or didnt work; this thing was converting videos for me with a single press of a button. If you want to watch videos on your IPhone or IPod this is definitely the way to go.
The only gripe I had was that directory browsing was slow, or would occasionaly time out. I know it is not my network because it was streaming videos just fine. This morning my server popped up a message saying there was an update available, I downloaded and installed it and now directory browsing is lighthing fast. Kudos to the authors.
It would be nice if you can set the server to only convert videos during a certain time range, like 12am - 6am. The conversion slows down my computer, but that is expected I suppose. Maybe we can see this in a free update? :)

Tried to buy this app last night but kept getting error messages. Oh well.. Then, this afternoon, on a whim, tried to buy this app again. Downloaded on to my iPod Touch just fine. Oh, I see. It was offline so the price could be dropped to 99 cents. But I would have paid $2.99! Sorry about that. Downloaded the server application to my 2007 Mac Mini, and started to see how this all worked. Works fabulously! Intuitive and very fast to set up. Streams and converts videos on the fly while streaming all sorts of videos from iTunes, movie folder, anywhere to the iPod Touch. Won't stream DRM videos, though. Who cares! Sorry networks, guess I won't watch your content if you persist in making it hard for me. The real boon is for video podcasts! Yes! Navigated to those and added to server and in streaming delight anywhere I have wifi. Especially fabulous for streaming my HD video podcasts! Fantastic! Excellent app! Thanks!

This app is unbeliveable. INCREDIBLE! I can watch my divx and mkv from the other side of the world in brilliant quality. The sound is amazing as well. 10 stars. 20 stars! The only request I could think is to add support for .VOB files. PLEASE add support for .VOB! That would make this the must have app for the iphone. No longer will I have to spend hours converting video before a trip, and now I have more space for music! Thank you thank you thank you!

This is a brilliant app. Obviously the best feature is being able to play video on your iPhone over Wi-Fi and 3G without having to convert the video first and without it being on the iPhone itself. I downloaded the free version first along with the companion windows software (i'm using windows 7 x64, works fine). I was very happy to see that I didn't need to enable UPNP on my router and could instead just open one port directed to my static IP address. couldn't have been simpler to setup. I also have "simplify media" app for streaming music, but that's not nearly as elegant of an app and I rarely use it considering it's easier to listen to music on my iPhone. I had to restart my iPhone after downloading the app to get it to work properly. I love this app! try the free one if you want to see how amazing it is first. The easiest 99 cents I've spent. :)

This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Works brilliantly with every format I've tried. This does perfectly what the crappy PS3 struggles to acheive. The server software is simple, lightweight and just plain works. No stuffing around. I'm amazed apple aren't stiffling innovation on this one. Although I won't be surprised when it's pulled from the store for showing them up the way they do to Google. I'm in awe. Fantastic work and congrats to the developer/s.

I'm am extremely impressed with this app. With the design, the ease of use, everything! It's basically like Simplify Media for video, but the interface isn't laggy (using a 3GS). I LOVE the fact that you choose the quality, because you can ensure the video you are watching looks perfect. I have a whole bunch of high-definition (720p and 1080p) videos on an external hard drive hooked up to my Mac Pro. I can now view every single .mkv, .avi, .mts, .mov, .mp4 on my external!
They make it very easy to do port forwarding (which I've done before on the Airport Extreme, it isn't too hard now) through their client application on the Mac. Overall, the user experience is awesome. However, don't expect to have the same features as the regular iPod application. You can't seek (but the application makes it easy to seek and remembers your last position!) but that isn't a big issue. There is not a reason to download this application, prepare to be impressed.

I'm relaxing in the backyard with my iPhone, and I'm watching a movie streamed from my clunky old iMac G5 with no stuttering, no fuss. I'm sitting in a cafe in Tokyo with a free wi-fi spot, pull out my iPhone, and resume watching the same movie exactly where I left off- again no problems. I'm sitting on a train headed home, pull out the iPhone, start up this app, and queue the next movie for conversion over 3g and browse my library. Again, no problems. This app belongs on the front page of your home screen.

Great bang for the buck. This client/server combo packs a big punch for people who have to spend time away from their home computer - and their favorite media. You no longer are forced to buy video-to-iPhone conversion software and then synch it down to your device. I freed up a lot of space on my phone using this app. I live in GA. I'm visiting San Jose, CA. I launch the app ... A couple clicks - and I'm viewing myedia inventory from home. All of it, including flash, avi, wmv, mkv, mp4 ... This server utility running on you home machine can recode format on the fly (even allows you to que recoding remotely - and have it ready to view when you come back to it later. ) and stream your media remotely over wifi beautifully. Allows lower speed options with the usual bandwidth related video- stream quality tradeoffs. Ima happy camper. Best app I own. Dev is highly responsive and deserves all the chocolate bunnies he can eat. This apps a keeper.

Smooth on the fly conversion and streaming

Well written code and I'm impressed with how well it streams even large (2hrs) videos where the conversion takes place on the fly! Even via a 3g connection it takes just a few seconds for the video to start playing. I'm running the server on a Mac Pro and my router is an Apple AirPort Extreme. Just wish you could switch between WIFI and 3G on the app itself instead of having to go to the iPhone set up. Minor complain. Still solid 5 stars from me

Incredible App. Works Great! One of those "I can't believe my iPhone does this!" apps...

I bought and installed the app, downloaded the server to my iMac, and within two minutes I was streaming all of my media directly to my iPhone. I took an extra 45 seconds and had it set up to stream over the internet. It works perfectly. It is one of those apps that will blow my friends minds. Simple, efective, and does exactly what it says it wil do. This is SO much easier than trying to manage your movies and TV shows through iTunes. Live conversion is awesome. You don't have to convert the whole file to begin playing it, it converts it on-the-fly. The total time, over my home network WiFi from pressing "play with live conversion" to video start, is about 5-10 seconds... If you have a large media library, and want to take it with you, this is the app...

Storing multiple movies on iPhone is not feasible. With this app its perfect for streaming movies via wi-fi. intergrated converter works great but if you have already converted movies to mp4 (for Apple TV) they work fine. conversion is quick anyway with a easy interface and most important, easy connection via server. these sort of apps should be purchased by apple and intergrated as standard feature like the app Memory Status.

I was frustrated at first, nothing would play. I did some reading on the forums at the Air Video website and saw that the problem was that I'm running OS X Tiger. Leopard or later is required for most file types. I did find some .mp4 files on my hard drive, and I was pleasantly suprised to see that they did work. No jerkiness or anything. I'll be buying a new Mac with Show Leopard so soon I'll be able to watch all my movies with this great app. Pretty cool that I don't have to load movies onto my iPhone anymore. A big thumbs up from me.

Where has this app been all my life? I can stream video in any file format?! And the quality is simply astounding, to the point that it's hard to believe. The way the app handles seeking is also smart and intuitive, especially considering that you might need to seek to a portion that's not finished rendering yet, in which case the app smoothly jumps to that section and starts converting from there. This app is so well thought out that it really doesn't deserve the bland icon it currently has. I'm sure a better icon would draw more converts
