Description:
Update: after resolving some legal issues, CubeCheater is now available for FREE! CubeCheater solves everyone's favorite 80's puzzle. Just input your cube's state and CubeCheater will show you how to solve it. You can tap in your cube's colors with the palette or you can take pictures of the cube and it will use computer-vision techniques to automatically recognize the colors for you (Camera feature not available on the iPod touch). CubeCheater finds optimal or near-optimal solutions in only a few seconds. Even a really mixed-up cube only takes around 20 turns to solve, vs. hundreds for a human algorithm. More info and a demo video are available at: http://cubecheater.efaller.com/ As seen on: Gizmodo, Wired, TUAW, MAKE, Cult of Mac, and more! Note: CubeCheater is not associated with and is not endorsed or sponsored by the owner of the RUBIK'S CUBE Trademark. This owner is Seven Towns Limited, the manufacturer and worldwide distributor of the RUBIK'S CUBE three dimensional puzzle.

Incredible By: AaronRZ - 04-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1 I bought this app and tried it out. It didn't work...at first. I deleted the app from my iPod because the cubes faces were different. Today I installed it again and decided to give it another go. It worked!!! I just had to change the cube type to original in the settings. I entered the cube faces and bam! All the years of suffering the inability to only once bring the cube back to how it was meant to be are finally over. Millions of failed moved and now, the great puzzle if the holy Rubic's cube finally solved! This is a great app and I'm glad I spent that bargain price of 59p. If you own a Rubic's cube and your life has been a misery for the last 50 years then download this! 5 stars - a must buy for anybody who owns that little multicoloured wonder.
WORKS PERFECTLY EXEPT: By: Agent Geek - Oct 25, 2009 Version: 1.2 Works perfect except one thing: I think I have a normal cube but, assuming the blue side is the top and the white side is the front, the red and orange sides are switched. So the classic setting nor the modern setting work. After I input the sides in custom it worked fine! People don't just take the time to figure that out and put 5 star reviews instead of 1 star reviews! So to Eric Faller: maybe you should make it a little clearer what is happening when you choose either "classic" or "modern" so that people know which is truely the right one to choose. This is a brilliant app! Please keep the updates compatible with older iphones as long as Apple will allow it!
Amazing By: Alex .p - 02-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1 Other than my inability to read on screen instructions it's an amazing experiance. Good GUI. Brilliant for impressing the family. Definatly buy it. 59p is a good price. I'm amazed at the picture regognition, works seemlessly except of course in low light or non White light.
Obviously a few clever algorithms in here to work out that cube in minimal time.
Thanks to all developers. Briliant job 10/10.
Works perfectly By: Happy cuber - 21-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1.1 I too was skeptical about this programs ability and the authors claim. I bought the program and entered the colours, pressed solve and up comes an easy to follow solution. Saves me time in solving as my 6 yr old son loves to grab the cube and mess it up on me!
If you are looking for a program to help you solve the 3x3x3 rubiks cube then this is the program you are looking for. I hope in the future they add the ability to solve a 4x4x4 cube!
GREAT! By: JeepRuby - Mar 4, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 This this is amazing. I finally like the Rubiks Cube! At first it wasn't working, but you need to change the setting from "Modern" to "Classic" I didn't even know there was another Rubiks cube out there. But, if when you are putting in the colors, it is impossible to put the color asked on top, change the setting at the main screen. Once that is changed, this thing works PERFECTLY! Thank You for this app. Awesome!
Holy hell... By: strongnc21 - Sep 12, 2009 Version: 1.2 Are you kidding me???!??!? Standard "fill in the colors" for setting up the state of the cube, and then being able to solve it, is grounds enough for a paid app. But this program actually lets you take photos ON THE FLY, and then it uses some sort of image recognition processing to automagically determine the colors! W T F Eric Faller, my man, you are my hero. This program is simply amazing. Though I think it took me longer to set up the cube in the program and follow its directions than it would have taken to just solve the cube the old-fashioned way (currently down to solving in about 1 minute, average). To speed things up with the camera cube construction... maybe tell the user to take all the photos in a row, and THEN process them? Also, needs a lot of light for the camera when taking photos - if it's too dark, the algorithm will think the orange squares are red instead. If all photos were taken at the same time, and then processed all at once, maybe it'd be possible to compare all the colors and dynamically determine how dark red is and how dark orange is?

Worked great! (After I customized it for my weird cube.) By: MusicPassionArt - Feb 14, 2009 Version: 1.1 I input my cube's messed-up configuration, only to be told by the app that there was an illegal corner somewhere. Wha...?? I went back and double/triple-checked everything, but no joy... then I decided to take one more look at the setup menu. Lo and behold, you can customize your cube setup, which I discovered I had to do because my red and orange sides are backwards from the default modern cube. That did the trick, and the solution worked beautifully! Fantastic!
This a great app By: Speed cuber - Feb 5, 2009 Version: 1.1 If you are having trouble with this app the you are not paying atention to the top of the screen where it says the color obove the center you are trying to insert colors in. also if you have a cube that does not have orange and red oposite green and blue oposite and yellow and white oposite than you need to go to costum cube and put the centers into their places. I love this app even though I can solve the rubik's very easily.
Fantastic!!! By: TehNooob - Feb 5, 2009 Version: 1.1 Love It!!! It also helps me figure out helpful moves!!!! HEY EVERYONE who says it doesn't work, listen up!!!! On the home screen click "Cube Setup". Then click "Customize Cube". IT'S REALLY SIMPLE CUSTOMIZE YOUR OWN CUBE. Then try putting the pattern in. It should work every time now. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!! Pls subscribe to me on YouTube. My account is neofight22. Leave a message saying thanks!!!

How to make this app work By: Luketheduke2000apple - Jul 14, 2009 Version: 1.2 Ok to all of those people who don't know how to work this app or think it's a rip off, I'll try my best to explain it for you...When you try to solve a cube and put the colors in, observe the miniscule cubes on the left of how you choose which side and color of the cube. I had troubles with this at first, but I realized all you have to do is this: look at the smaller cubes on the side. Then notice the cubes all show 3 side of the cube. Use this to help you. If you don't get what I mean, here is an example: say one of the small cubes shows red, blue, and yellow sides. Take your real rubiks cube and match the colors of each center square on the side of the cube with the one in the picture. When you have that side done, go on to the other sides using this method. When you go to solve the cube, it should work if you use this method. Helpful hints: -the center square on a face of a cube never changes -when you solve the cube, move your own rubiks cube the same direction as the way the app is showing you to go; this avoids confusion.

DOES work!!! By: aajw - Feb 1, 2009 Version: 1.1 Ok we had a little hick-up getting it to solve the cube. Here are a couple tips.
1. Make sure you have the cube oriented the right direction (blue, white up, etc)
2. Be careful if using the camera, that the colors are correct. We had trouble with red and orange sometimes not picking up correctly.
3. Our cube was a delux, so in order to get a solution we needed to customize the color orientation on the main screen.
After that.... We were golden!!!!
WAY COOL. The kids were THRILLED!
Really useful! By: Djjcjdjdidndudi - Feb 1, 2009 Version: 1.1 You know how when you get a Rubik's Cube and you mix it up and can't solve it? This app fixes that problem, just enter the colors and there you go!
For those that don't get the color thing, say it says yellow side, there will be a yellow in the middle of that side, then it says white on top, the color on the top will be a white in the middle. There you go!
Overall really useful app, pays for it's self in the first use!
Does what it says on the tin By: Ruffian79 - 16-May-2009 Version: 1.1.1 "How to" could be slightly better, took me a minute or so to realize that by face they meant the central cube of each side . The solving steps would be slightly easier to follow if the "slice" wouldn't constantly move back and forth but stood still in the original position slightly longer making it easier to distinguish between what you've got and where to move it to ( it's possible I'm just easily confused) . People saying it doesn't work: you entered the slices wrong I.e turned the cube the wrong way . It's purely mathematic if it says it can't compute than the input is wrong . White face up blue face front means have the blue center cube face you whilst holding the entire cube so that the white center cube faces up. Strictly follow the directions on the left as to what colour should be visible on the front and top "center cubes" and it will solve it, if it can't you made a mistake, not the application. If you twist the cube sideways other than directed (i.e. Wrong colour on top ) there is no way the program could calculate the exact positions of all cubes and / or how to solve it. Quite unfair to give 1 star when the error is on your end. kind of like blaming a calculator to produce wrong results for 5+5 when what you actually entered is 4+ 4. and no don't know the developer just somewhat annyoed about how carelessly people rate applications from the anonymity of their phones.
Works Great By: FearfulSpoon - Jul 3, 2009 Version: 1.2 I can solves cubes already but the features on this app caught my eye so I had to try it. It's fun to use and I enjoy seeing how it would solve different patterns. The painting color picker is an easy way to put the colors in, but the camera method is just fun to do! If the light is low it will confuse reds and oranges but you can quickly fix those with the color picker.I will certainly recommend this to friends who can't solve their cubes.

Really cool app! By: pillyliu - Jan 30, 2009 Version: 1.1 First of all, I know how to solve a Rubik's cube. I use Lars Petrus's method and can do it under a minute. Despite that, when I first saw this app on Gizmodo, I was blown away by how incredibly cool it is. It is SO polished and SO classy. Everything from the artwork backgrounds to the graphical effects when it analyzes the pictures of your cube is incredibly awesome. So I bought the app, even though I don't really have a need for it. It is just way too cool. I wish other applications would utilize the iPhone hardware in the extremely creative way that CubeCheater does. I'm anxious to see what Eric Faller releases next.
Bravo... By: Thor79 - Jan 29, 2009 Version: 1.1 This app gets my money not because I can use it...I don't even own a Rukik's Cube. It gets my money because it is a genuinely innovative app. Hell of a lot better than the fart machine or the sound grenade. I'll be happy when I see this hit the top 10 paid apps and when I see a story on some news site saying the guy made a Million Bucks off the app. Rewarding genuine creativity has its merits. Plus it'll come in handy if I'm ever forced to solve a Rubik's Cube to save my (or another's) life by an evil villain who has a Rubik's Cube as his Nemesis. :P I'd like to see a game mode added...a sort of "Virtual Rubik's Cube"...solve it then compare your solution to the solution created by the program. For those of us who bought the app to see it succeed, even though we don't own a Rubik's Cube.
App works great! By: Wik23 - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.2 Not only does this app do exactly what it claims to do, it does it well. The UI is easy to use, and looks great - a cube can be input quickly. Then the fun part - you get to watch the solution of the cube! There is a decent amount of customization, the only thing that could be improved in this app would be options for other sizes of cubes, like 2x2 or 4x4... Thank you Eric Faller for providing this app for free, I couldn't rate it anything other than 5 stars at this price!
