Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones

Category: Utilities
Rating: rating 6(27221)
Version: Devicescape
Size:

Price:  $2.99

Description:

*** IMPORTANT ***
- This is only for AT&T iPhones , not iPods
- You need to also install our companion app "Easy WiFi"
WHAT IT DOES:
Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones replaces the multi-step SMS based login mechanism that AT&T provides for their iPhone customers with a single app launch. Configure the application once by entering your AT&T hotspot user name (your 10 digit AT&T iPhone number is your AT&T hotspot user name). After that, whenever you're in range of an AT&T hotspot, simply launch the app and within a few seconds you'll be connected to the internet. No need to type anything, and no waiting for an SMS.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO:
Easy Wi-Fi does not turn Wi-Fi on automatically, nor does it select the Wi-Fi network. (Those are not possible within the rules of the current iPhone SDK agreement.) We're hoping a future upgrade to the iPhone will allow these things to be done from a third party application without breaking the agreement.
As long as you leave Wi-Fi turned on, and you have connected at least once to the 'attwifi' network, your iPhone should remember it and automatically reconnect when you are in range of the hotspot's Wi-Fi. The first time you use AT&T's hotspot network, simply choose the 'attwifi' network from the list of Wi-Fi networks, then run Easy Wi-Fi to log in.
SETUP:
Start Easy Wi-Fi the first time, and enter your 10-digit phone number. That's it! Note: you must be an AT&T subscriber.
USAGE:
Simply start the Easy Wi-Fi application once you're in the AT&T Wi-Fi location and it will log you in. A few seconds later you're connected!
PRIVACY:
We only need your iPhone number because that is your AT&T Wi-Fi user name. We will not share your number with others, call you ourselves or send you SMS messages. We only use the number to connect you to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots.
The "reviews" below that claim we will sell your number are wrong. We take our members' privacy very seriously and do everything we can to protect your data. We will never use any hotspot user names, including your AT&T iPhone number, for anything other than connecting you to a hotspot.
If you have any concerns about how we use your phone number, we welcome you to post them in our forum (see below) and we'll do our best to explain.

Nice. Read if "can't see" networks  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: Welchwold - Dec 14, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
Works wonderfully for me. To those complaining that this "can't see" the wireless networks: this isn't intended to connect to the wifi hotspots---you need to do that via the system settings the way you do normally on the iPhone. Do it once and the iPhone should re-connect automatically when it sees any ATT wifi again. Then, use this app to automate the *authentication*( after you are connected to the wifi), saving you the trouble of having to log in with your phone number, wait for the SMS message from ATT, etc. As i said, it works great for me. (I am also puzzled by the glowing reviews with only one star. I guess it's because the reviews default to one star and people accidentally miss/forget to change it?)

Works as designed  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones

Great app, makes AT&T hotspots a breeze, best price around. And no it doesn't work with the touch and is not a hot spot finder. iPhone subscribers pay for "free" access on AT&T hotspots. The login process is slow, this app makes that a breeze. At&t DSL really has nothing to do with AT&T wireless, why would you expect to get a wireless service as a dsl customer? At&t wireless customers don't get free DSL service! Anyway nice app and these neg reviews are unjust and should be thrown out.

This is such a time saver. I used to get frustrated because I would be amidst checking email and the wifi took over without login set so it wouldn't allow me to send out email. The other problem was I would have to go into settings especially if there was a cellular provider nearby. This gets rid of all that hassle. Heard about it on the Nosilla cast at podfeet.com well worth the money for all you who frequent starbucks.

Works great for me  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones

Haven't had a problem with this yet. Used in a few Starbucks locations around town. Some people are writing about having trouble connecting, just make sure you choose 'attwifi' (not 'tmobile' as most Starbucks still have both) and connect to it (in Settings menu or the wifi popup) before you launch the app. Logs me in under 15 seconds everytime. I also have a ported Verizon number to AT&T (one reviewer said it didn't recognize his number originally from another carrier) and it still works great. Sorry to hear it's not working for that guy, but it does appear to work in that situation for some (if not most).

Get over it!  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: tmk12v - Dec 8, 2008

This program works exactly as advertised. It's for iPhones and will never be for iPod touch. Apple will not allow this for the Touch and neither will AT&T. The service is given to AT&T iPhone subscribers to get free wifi at their hotspots. Touch users do not have an iPhone contract with AT&T so they do not get free access. I don't even see why touch users are compaining? It's plain and simple. Just like AT&T house phone subscribers need to stop complaining as well. The programmer cannot give you service to something that is not in their control. Go complain to AT&T if you have a gripe. I love this as it works perfectly with my iPhone.

No reason not to work with Touch...  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: BarryGoldwater - Dec 6, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
Going to rate this well because I believe they willl modify to work with the iTouch. Many iTouch users are AT&T subscribers. They are just savvy and looked at the iPhone but were unwilling to pay the $30/month "data" fee for 3G. That would be $360/yr or actually more like $400 with taxes, junk fees, etc. With the proliferation of wi-fi, I found no need to pay this, plus didn't want to be under the dreaded AT&T "contract" again. Even if you don't have AT&T wireless, Starbucks and McDonalds use AT&T wi-fi. It's free at Starbucks as long as you register and use a Starbucks card once monthly. That is all...

This is a Gem  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: thebon - Apr 5, 2009

Those people who write reviews without reading what the application can do and then give it only 1 star are incredible. Those people who complain that they had to pay to do something they can continue to do the long way are equally incredible. This application cannot be more straightforward. It works. For less than a dollar you can simplify your life. Isn't that worth something to you? For those who think this won't get them on ATT wifi at Starbucks with an Iphone read all the reviews. If you are trying to get on the internet using a Samsung Phone at Olive Garden, don't buy this application -- just read the name of the application. Set it up at home or at any other wifi hotspot beforehand if you have been unable to get the proper wifi/iphone screen when you are actually there at Starbuck's -- don't waste your time with genius types at Apple who give you bad advice about how to get online. They really only know what they are told and they do not read the reviews of products or the forums which solve problems. This program solves a problem for everyone and it is a problem that they solved with elegance. For those who cannot get on at all (an AT & T tech actually told me to Ask a Barrista) it gets you online and for those who have already been able to get on line it lets you get right to it instead of having to wait until your latte is cold.

It's About Time  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: KennMSr - Dec 6, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
It's ashame AT&T didn't provide this app themselves when they release the service, considering how many times the released a teaser then retracted the service. To take five minutes to get a valid WiFi connection was ludicrous and my Cappacino was cold when I'm ready to surf. It's now just two clicks away and no more than 30 seconds wait so my drink is now just cool enough to drink. Oh thank you Devicescape.

My Wifi works at Starbucks now!  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: Indagarden - Apr 5, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
I have a new iphone 3g a replacement for one that kept dropping wifi altogether With this new iphone, I was not able to log into wifi at Starbucks. I received a page that was for laptops with several choices, none of which were applicable to the iphone. I contacted Apple and ATT. ATT has not been able to resolve the issue yet, but they say they're working on it. I bought this app with the hope that it might work and it did. Here's how: At home, where the wifi works just fine, I configured my Easy Wifi account with my iphone number. (Configuring it where wifi works is very important.) Today to test it, I went to Starbucks and had the same problem when I used the traditional method for logging in, but when I launched Easy Wifi it worked great. It said "Logging In," and then indicated I was logged in and I actually was. Many thanks for this very useful app.

I've used it at several Starbucks and at Barnes & Nobles, with both my 3g and my wife's original iPhone. It worked perfectly every time. Save the hassle of selecting the network, going to Safari, typing in my number, waiting for SMS, etc.
I highly recommend it.
For those having trouble, make sure you set it up ahead of time. You need to register your phone number, so it can auto login for you.

Great Timesaver  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: David in LA - Feb 24, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
Just like the developer states, it simplifies and speeds up the wifi login procedure at ATT hotspots (at all Starbucks, for example). My rating does not address the price. It's up to you what the savings in time and hassle are worth. If you spend 20 min. each weekday at Starbucks checking headlines (consider Instapaper) like I do, it would be foolish not to have this app. A note re other reviews: any difficulty having to login again because your connection was dropped has nothing to do with this app. It only logs you on by hitting one application button on your Springboard, so you don't have to open Safari, enter your phone number, wait for the text mesaage, activate the hyperlink in the text message, and close the extra window left open in Safari. If you lose your connection, you would have lost it whether you use this app or not. Only, if you are not using this app, it will be a much bigger hassle getting back online. Also, I have used this app since it was released, months now, and I have not experienced any issue with a violation of my privacy. Finally, on the price, I don't understand why they are charging the same for this ATT only app as they are for their app that will work at any hotspot (where you qualify for access); it's not an issue for me, but if I was buying now and they were still the same price I would probably get their other app.

perfect for iphone Starbucks logon  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: jeffrush - Dec 5, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
I don't know how it works, but when I sat outside my local Starbucks and made sure my wi-fi was connected to attwifi, I started this app and I was nearly instantly connected -- would be nice if the app would have an option to then launch Safari - but hey, it's free and it saves me several steps and time. Gotta love free wi-fi included with your iphone plan. I'm just curious how it can log you on without generating the text message required when it's done manually. Anyone know?

Very Happy With This App.  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: Pilotkid - Feb 6, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
I work at Starbucks and am there more than I am at home. All I have to do is start this app and I'm online within 10 seconds easy, if it doesn't work I know somethings wrong with the WiFi at work cause its not the app thats messing up. Once again, very happy with this, would highly recommend if you are near AT&T hotspots alot. Lets face it having to type in your phone number every ten mins and wait for a text message is VERY annoying! PS. I don't know why people are giving this app bad reviews. I may be wrong, but I don't think that this app is suppose to "find" wifi hotspots for you...it's suppose to log you into AT&T's hotspurs without having to enter you phone number and wait forba text for your access code.

FINALLY! What took them so long?  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: SF_Jeff - Dec 3, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
This is a MUST have for any iPhone user. AT&T's WiFi networks were basically unusable because of the tedious steps involved, and worse if your iPhone remembered AT&T's WiFi network it would flip you to WiFi for data even though it was unusable without going through their gauntlet of text messages and links. Now if they'd just build this into iPhone's software so you don't have to start the dumb app to get logged in!

Great auto login - FREE Wifi App  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: Bypass ATT wifi login - Jan 24, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
I had to register/login with my devicescape account for it to accept my phone number.

Those who have trouble logging in:
-Tap on the app
-Tap the "i" on the bottom right hand corner
-Tap "My Devicescape"
-Login/Register
-Your Phone number should now work. I think this registers your device.
I love this app works perfectly! Bypasses the login process AT&T makes you go through.
When I travel I just mainly look for Starbucks, Barnes & Nobel, or Mcdonolds if I need wifi.
Actually, I got this app before they raised it from FREE to 99 pennies.

Easy Wifi for AT&T "It does exactly what it says!"  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: App Reviewer 007 - Dec 3, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
I have been using Easy Wi-Fi for months this newest version made for the AT&T is perfect! It a one click login!
However, there is a “two-step” process the first time you log in to any “New AT&T hotspot” first you must use the built in wifi application through the settings on your iPhone. Select the AT&T hotspot then return to Wi-Fi for AT&T and click log in and your logged on! No SMS alerts, no waiting its just one click and your surfing for free with AT&T.
Lastly, you'll have to set up the Wi-Fi for AT&T app on your iPhone buy just entering in your mobile telephone number once... set it and forget it!

Worked Perfectly  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: rkbaker48 - Jan 18, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
I must say that this app has worked exactly as advertised. I reviewed the privacy policy and didn't see anything like what some of the reviewers have noted. At any rate, I have been to a couple of different Starbucks locations and connected almost instantly. Given the rather kludgy way one has to connect normally (typing in one's phone number and then waiting for a SMS message), I feel happy to have spent $1.99 for the convenience.

If you block text messaging, this app is a godsend  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: John in Wisconsin - Jan 14, 2009
Version: 2.1.3
This app is worth 10 times its cost to me, because it enables me to use Barnes & Noble's WiFi. You see, I hate text messaging. I abhor it. I think that it's the biggest ripoff going, other than those free credit report offers. I don't want to be charged for text messages that I didn't ask to received. So I stopped it. I called AT&T and told them to block all text messages, except for the free ones from AT&T and Apple. The problem is that AT&T doesn't have its act together. It uses text messages to activate WiFi at B&N and Starbucks, but it does it through a Cingular server, instead of an AT&T server and the messages get blocked. So no WiFi . . . until this app. This app quickly connects and I've had zero problems and get to keep blocking those dreadful ripoffs known as text messages. Thank you Easy Wi-Fi.

Works  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: Dr up urs - Dec 5, 2009
Version: 3.0
I works great with iPhone 2g on Att without a data plan. All you have to do is follow the included configuration instructions at somewhere with Internet and that's it! I'm writing this review at Starbucks right now :). Pro: works! One time configuration. Pretty cheap for a very useful app (as compared to paying an additional $20 a month for a data plan)Con: the program kept saying that it had an error connecting to it's servers to save my telephone number but after 3 tries, it works flawlessly without any more interventions. Also, when my phone locks and resprings, I would have to run easy wifi for AT&T to log back online. This is an unconvience but i think this issue has more to do with Apple and not the developer for this program. Conclusion: best app I have ever bought in iTunes

It just works.  rating of Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T iPhones
By: William Joseph - Dec 17, 2008
Version: 2.1.1
Don't let the low rating because of non-AT&T users and iPod Touch users deter you. Eliminates the messy multistep process of connecting to the ATT network, entering your number, waiting for a text and then clicking on the link. You click on the app and wait a few seconds (normally 5 or so) and you are connected. AT&T's method would usually take a while because you would have to load their webpage over EDGE or 3G. Worth the money if you are near a AT&T hotspot.
