Made my code and it worked very well - doesn't really need to be that clear. Hopefully we'll see more codes around...

I was skeptical but it worked like a charm. Used it on the National Post. The picture wasn't great yet the application worked fine.

Exciting Technology ...  rating of ScanLife
By: MBJustice - Aug 12, 2008

I really think this technology is very cool. The application could stand for a better interface for the history and favorites. I hope to see these codes on print soon.

Works as advertised  rating of ScanLife

I use this to get mobile content for my daily newspaper. It works flawlessly. However, don't download it unless to have access to the codes you need to scan.

not bad  rating of ScanLife
By: Nallvf - 1-Oct-2008

This app needs support for more barcode types to be useful.

Not very practical  rating of ScanLife
By: James_Clay - Jun 20, 2009
Version: 2.0
This only scans EZ Codes. The majority of codes out there are QR code and Data Matrix, so I don't see the point.

It's great  rating of ScanLife

You are being much too hard on this app. I downloaded it, took a scan, and went right to the correct URL. How much brainless/easy could it b?

Not what you think it is  rating of ScanLife
By: fixyourthinking - Feb 15, 2009

This app isn't what it seems. It would be useful if it were not linked to a proprietary paid barcode creation software/service/website. Read other reviews before downloading this app. I do think it would be awesome ... if everyone had an "Apple iDevice" that could use the scanlife system.

Proprietary  rating of ScanLife
By: Stan Wiechers - Oct 1, 2008
Version: 2.0
ScanLife is a barcode reader that reads the proprietary codes from ScanLife only, they call them EZCode. The right barcodes to support are QR Codes which work real well and come with no copyright and patent issues attached. Try the iphone beetag or neomedia reader for a good experience. Essentially ScanLife wants to make money with creation and usage of barcodes whereas existing barcodes work equally well and are free.

Only supports proprietary 2D barcodes  rating of ScanLife
By: EddyGeez! - Aug 14, 2008
Version: 2.0
I tried it and this app only scans proprietary "EZcode" two-dimensional barcodes instead of the industry-standard "QR Code" and "DataMatrix" codes that are already prevalent for this purpose in other parts of the world.
It is worth noting that the only data encoded in an EZcode is a reference number to the ScanLife database. In order to turn an EZcode into something useful, your iPhone must make a query to the ScanLife servers. If you read the FAQ, you'll see that you must have an active Internet connection in order to decode an EZcode. After the information is sent to ScanLife, your iPhone is redirected to the appropriate service. This is in stark contrast to QR Code and DataMatrix barcodes, which encode the actual content (such as a web site URL) directly in the barcode itself -- alleviating the need to contact a third-party server. Because every code you scan must pass through the ScanLife servers, they can track when every code is scanned. In addition, a unique "user ID" is included with every query.
The app does function, albeit slowly. You have to tap to start a scan. Then tap to take the picture. Then tap to "use this photo"... and then you wait for what seems like 7-8 seconds while the app displays "Saving photo" before it finally switches to Safari and retrieves the ScanLife redirection URL.

No support for universal codes  rating of ScanLife
By: Godrifle - Aug 14, 2008
Version: 2.0
Reliance on proprietary barcode instead of the industry standard QR Code makes this app worthless.

Poor.  rating of ScanLife

Pretty poor wouldn't decode anything. Wait until they fix it.

Does nothing  rating of ScanLife
By: ST Reviews - 09-Jul-2009

Codes that I have successfully decoded with other apps would not decode with this even after numerous attempts.

Not worked so far!  rating of ScanLife
By: Jacks5 - 20-Mar-2009

Scanned a council leaflet barcode for mobiles- it did not work. Cannot create your own barcode on this application. Good idea though, I'll wait until it corrects itself.
