Movie Plot
Opening:
You’re driving in your car on Friday night with your gal. Your mind is frantically racing to surprise her by being the first to suggest what to do before you hear her say “what are we doing tonight?” Beating her to the punch, you turn to her and ask, “want to se a movie? “Not sure” she responds.
You pull out your iPhone and pull her close. “Ah,” she sighs with amazement as you do nothing more than tap once on the Showtimes icon.
A beautifully designed interface displays, showing you and your significant other a list of local theaters, show times, along with movie posters, ratings, driving directions, etc. “Oh!” She admires with a twinkle in her eye.
Plot Development:
“I wonder if this is a god one,” she points to the obvious chick flick movie poster, slightly taping it, and lets out a reserved but long “Uhh!,” as the video trailer suddenly starts to play. “Impressive,” she whispers. You know you can’t say no to her choice now and quickly respond, “Lets go see this one. It starts at 7:15,” as you tap on the show description to read more about the movie.
Feeling the need to impress her more you add, “how about dinner afterwards?” “Only if you can impress me more” she answers. You tap on the Munch application icon and say, “what do you feel like eating?” She answers, “I haven’t had Italian in a while.” Again, with a single tap of your finger, a list of the nearest Italian restaurants, and their ratings, appear before your eyes. “Yummy. I can’t wait,” she exclaims as you tap on the phone number to call for a reservation.
Epilog:
“Are we having dessert after?” She asks with a look only you know too well. Her question is not one that requires an answer, but you do so anyways. You tap on the map and the route is displayed, then you turn sharply towards her and plant a big one on her scrumptiously smooth lips. You then respond, with a deep gaze into her eyes, “only if you can impress me more.”

THIS WORKS GREAT!! It pulls up the closet theatre FAST, listing all movies showing, times, ratings, etc. Then select the movie for more detailed information and preview.
Following the closet theatre listing is list of the next closest theatres, their names and distance from you. Select one of these alternate locations and get the same movie listings as the first one.
This sure beats out having a webpage link that is slow to download. TYTYTYTY! Nice icon too!!!

I've had Showtimes for several months on my iPhone and, until the most recent update, all worked great... as a matter of fact it was one of the most useful apps I had. Now when I try to open the app it goes to the headliner page (purple with a film reel) and stays frozen for about five seconds, then simply closes out on its own and returns to my iPhone desktop. I've tried reloading it, resyncing the phone, purchasing the app again... everything... so far, no luck. Anyone else have this issue recently?

This is a great app. I live in a small town and it recognized. So if it finds mine it will definatly find yours! Very easy to use, you literally don't have to do anything other than let it use your location and scroll around and see the movie times. Really simple that's the best part.
I wish it had 2 things so developers grab a notepad and read carefully!
1) Times for other than the present.
2) the movie trailers.
Pretty good eh!? Make it happen!

This app works perfectly. Where ever I am it will give me the closest theater & the movies that are playing. I live in the Bronx NY & it starts with the closest theater telling me the movies & their times. Then when I was on vacation in Miami Florida it gave me the closest theater there with the movies that were playing-- I didn't even know there was a theater around in that area...I clicked the google maps icon next to that theaters name (in this app) & it took me to the google maps app & gave me directions from my current location, AWESOME feature. I also love being able to see the trailers to see what the movie is about. The popular view is great, it lists all the movies that are playing & from there u can see all the theaters that movie is playing in. Shocking that this is free. I use it all the time!

This is the best application that I've downloaded for my iPhone 3G! It's so much more convenient to use this than call the theatre and have to wait and listen through the list of movies on the prompt. The location feature is fantastic. It puts the movies and times in a great layout. It does have the zip code search now (I don't know if it was lacking that before the update) but why would you need that? How often are you searching for a movie time in an area where the zip code is very far away? Overall this is the best app in the app store.

This is the one true movies-now-playing-in-your-area application for the iPhone. It uses the GPS or Skyhook wifi-locator to find your current location (or you can give it your zip code), and pulls down what’s playing at the nearest theaters to you. Links within the program allow you to see reviews, watch the trailer, or even purchase tickets on-line. Never rummage through your newspaper or call a theater answering machine again!

Showtimes, compared to Movies and Now Playing, has the most features combined with the best interface for a movie app. It gives you everything you need: trailers, movie posters, critic input (rotten tomatoes, metacritic, etc.), imdb information, the ability to buy movie tickets from the app, ratings, and more. Avantar, the maker of Showtimes, has excellent customer service as well. They get back to you the same day you write to them. I recommend Showtimes to anyone and everyone.

This app is great for when the movie theater I'm currently at is sold-out. With just a few taps standing in the parking lot I have a map with directions to the next closest theater. It even has previews. Really slick. One complaint, it tends to get cranky if I don't allow it to read my current location. Maaaaybe I want to see a movie in another town? It will let me select a different location after half a dozen warnings. Other than that, it has quickly become my favorite app.

I downloaded all the free movie showtime apps and this one is the best one! Unlike the other ones, this one shows me ALL the theaters in my area. The others only had showtimes for the bigger theaters, which is fine since I mostly go to those theaters, but sometimes I want to know showtimes for the smaller theaters in my area. This one does just that! And the interface is so much more nicer with this one! :)

i downloaded the other movies app on my ipod touch only to find myself EXTREMELY frustrated that it would not use wi-fi to locate where i was and tell me the theatres around me. in the middle of a mall in alabama i had to figure out my zipcode to find the listings for a theatre directly across the street. showtimes is clean, simple, the layout is lightyears better and extremely intuitive, and i dare say it looks cooler.

This app is exactly what I need... It quickly shows me the movies playing and showtimes of theaters close to my current location. It does it seemlessly and in a user friendly way. I don't need all the other junk that I could easily get if I just went online... And I understand I could upgrade this app to get it. But I haven't seen anything free that automatically knows my location, and quickly gives me the movie info I need in such a user friendly way. This is very helpful to me since I travel quite a bit. Bravo to the developers!

This program locates all the movies near me and even provides a rating for each movie based on a simple five star system. Click the movie and you get a short blurb from imdb. Almost all movie searching applications on a computer platform (the guilty web developers have been spared anonymity) can't do this without a lot of extra fluff and adds that confuse me. As I said above This application might actually get me going to the movies again.
My Favorite Movie App Is Finally Fixed

When I first got my iPhone last year this was one of the fist apps. I loved it for it's ease of use and efficiancy at finding a last minute movie on the go.
A few months ago an update was released which caused the app to crash on start-up. As others did, I reported the problem, crossed my fingers, and patiently waited for a future fix. With each update following I installed it in the hopes of getting it to work, but several updates later I was left feeling frustrated. This morning I tried one more time with the latest release and it failed AGAIN. So I finally deleted it. BUT WAIT...
I decided to reboot my iPhone after deleting it and after I did I thought "they said it was fixed. Maybe I was having some caching problem or the problem was with my phone." Being in the web-based software industry I can understand that. So I installed it one more time... Ding ding ding! That worked! Finally. Thank you.

Excellent App that quickly finds your location using GPS (iPhone 3G only) or if you are a iPhone 2G user you can enter you Postcode manually. Displayed all the cinemas nearest to me and the listings were accurate. Excellent time-saver. Fully recommended download. I do agree that even though in my case my favourite cinema is top of the list, for those who's it isn't a option to change your preference of cinemas. But hardly any app is perfect on it's initial release!

As I mentioned in the title, this app keeps getting better. When it was first released it lacked some key features, but the developer has been on top of it. It seems like they're adding new features every month. It has a very clean interface, offers users location based searching as well as zip code search for movie theaters, starts up quickly, offers ratings, descriptions, and trailers, links directly to Google maps for directions, and once again, everything works quickly. For the price of free, this is the best movie showtimes app.

I am a big believer in apps that have both style and substance, and Showtimes has more style in its pinky than all the other boring movie apps combined. Plus, it has enough substance to give you the information you want without all of the annoying extras that make the other movie apps take too long to load. It also scores major bonus points for simplicity. Using the i-Phone's GPS capabilities, Showtimes pinpoints your location to show you all the movie theaters nearby in a snap. It's interface is beautiful, and it's very intuitive and easy to use. The only thing that has me confused about this app is why anyone would give it anything less than 4 stars. The design is excellent, and it's FREE! My only suggestion is to make the movie artwork display at a higher resolution. Other than that, this app is absolutely perfect.
Missing A Key Feature

The only thing that annoys me is that I can't select a group of favorite theaters to automatically load times for. In order to check the theaters I like in my area, I have to change the zip code a couple times which can take a lot of time. Even to check the two theaters I frequent most often, I have to change the zip code. The Fandango app has this feature but the UI isn't as polished as this one and it doesn't show ratings which can come in handy. Overall a good app. With the theater favorites feature added, I would spend money for this one.

Initially I never used this app but now after the update it looks fab! Very nice work with the new design and particularly imdb, rottentomatoes, metacritic links. Movie posters now come up on sidebar. Some movie trailers can't still be viewed as the formats are not supported. I'll blame apple for that. All in all a very useful and stable app with extremely friendly interface.
Would be great to have accounts and favouritize a movie, write comment, get updates when it hits a nearby cinema. I know, I can be so greedy at times :)

I was very impressed with Showtimes when I installed it.
It works out all my local cinemas and lists the movie times. Each movie can be previewed easily too.
Just 2 small gripes - 1) it's a bit slow to load all the necessary data to display 2) the distance to the cinema is in miles, not Metric.
But that won't stop me getting my (free) money's worth out of it! Great job!!

The Good:
- Works in Northern Ireland (even in Strabane/Derry)!!
- Brilliant GUI: very intuitive and well laid out.
- Loads and syncs quickly too.
The Bad:
- Constantly asks to use my current location every time I start it (on an iPod Touch).
In conclusion, this is a fantastic app, which is very very useful. Just add an option to turn off location tracking permanently please!
