The tech support guy said this may be caused by having a program continuously running in the background. He suggested I get your System Activity Monitor to see what was happening."

DO NOT UPGRADE  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: Ljgdambcz - Sep 6, 2009
Version: 1.1
If you want to keep the memory release function on the original, you'll want to back away from the update button. I'm confident the developers won't mind this warning since they'd rather have unupdated happy customers than angry mobs shaking fists and carrying torches. This isn't their choice. They were forced to remove the feature in order to stay on the app list. I'm giving five stars because of the awesome app--with or without "free memory". I didn't upgrade. BTW thanx MAILMETHESTUFF for your review. Very informative. One suggestion: since it isn't available any longer, the preview pics should be updated to avoid confusion.

This app saved me  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level

Version: 1.1
I have had my 3g for almost a year and have been very happy with it. Last week it started acting up. The phone was always hot and wouldn't hold a charge. I tried all the suggestions I could find about turning things off, checking email, shutting down the phone, hard boot the phone, let the battery run out, this setting, that setting... The battery would always run down in about 3 hours even with out use. On Friday it wouldn't even charge from the usb port. It was terrible. I thought I would have to make a trip to the Apple store to get either a new battery or new phone. Well I write software for a living and I wanted to document the discharge rate before going to Apple. A little searching I came up with an App (System Activity Monitor) that had a battery monitor that sounded reasonable. After installing it I discovered it had more features than that. It had a process list and cpu monitor. I watched both for a short while and noticed that the cpu would spike at 100% for about 10 seconds then fall back down to about 50% for 1 second and repeat. Each time it spiked one process would move to the top of the list "dataaccessd" So a little searching on the web and I find out that this process is related to exchange/active sync. So I disabled the email accounts and the Exchange sync for Mail/Contacts/Calendars. Then re-enabled them one at a time. Each time checking the cpu usage and the process list. When I was done enabling each one the phone was fine again. The cpu usage stays around 10% most of the time. The active sync must have been in some kind of confused state and by disabling it and enabling it the problem finally cleared and my phone is back to what it was originally. I know this is long but I only share this hoping it helps someone else.

Update EXCELLENCE  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: AntonioMC - Jul 19, 2009
Version: 1.1
I agreed with reviewers of the former version that complained about the "Free Memory" portion really not doing anything for a 3G S. However, this new update fixes this! A new Settings Screen gives the option to KILL ALL APPLICATIONS (including native apps) and OMG does this work and work GREAT! Memory is always now freed up using this updated version and on a 3G S we typically get ~152MB free (total free, not just freed up) after hitting the "Free Memory" button. It's now GREAT and exactly what we had wanted and hoped for - very well worth the $2.99 for this utility that also allows one to view CPU activity that can drain ones battery (plus the other useful info & goodies). Thank you Recession Apps for listening to your customers and making your application all that it should be!

If your Interested is knowing whats up with your iPhone, Get this.  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level

I bought "Free Memorey" and love it. Got this and It blows it away. Does everything the other did but more.
After buying "Free Memorey" for a way to see which apps were runing and using up memory and a way to shut them down, I'm blown away by this new app. Going into settings I can now just click the free memorey once and it will close "All" runing apps" Your iPhone's battery will last longer with no apps runing in the background. After It closes all the runing apps it recovers the memorey they were using.
Nice UI shows different colors of memorey use. I use it so much to monitor my iPhone that I've placed it in my dock. Instant access to see how the iPhone is doing.
A lot of friends that have iPhones were not aware that apps are not removed from memorey after they have closed them. By them seeing this they all tell me there going to Install it.

Most used app on my iPhone!  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: Addicted2AppStore - Jul 2, 2009
Version: 1.0
This is the most useful app on iTunes. I run this all the time. I play a lot of games on my iPhone, and most of them advice that you have to reboot the phone if you have problems with crashing. Simply running this to free up memory before I start a game prevents this from happening most of the time. The battery guage seems more accurate than the native icon because it's so small it often looks like you have more of a charge than you actually do. I'd recommend this app to anyone who plays games or uses the Safari browser for web surfing.

AWESOME!!!  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level

I am a tech guy and the people who are not and have no clue what this app does - STOP REVIEWING APPS WHEN YOU ARE CLUELESS!The app can only free up memory when there is memory to free up. It does not mean this app is "not working" or "broken".When the developers say it can free up 40 mb of ram - it doesn't mean that every time you push the free memory button that 40 mb will get free'd up. Your iPhone has a fixed amount of memory and a portion of that has to be reserved for the OS to work. Beyond that barrier this app can free up memory so it can be more responsive. To the guy who wants a timer... WHAT? A timer? OMG...This app free's up memory and shows you what is going on inside the box. If you don't understand then just don't review or rate.I have no affiliation with the developers of this app but I love it and I feel for them when I read the IDIOT reviews and insulting rankings.

Seriously I never leave reviews this is actually my first review ever besides to get people to add me on undead live.. Anyway, wow! Is all I can say. I was a skeptic and almost pinched my penny again when thinking about getting this app.. I'm so glad I got it though worth the money.. I've only ever boughten 1 app before and it was .99$ I regretted that decision but I do not regret this one even at 2.99$. I just used this while talking on the phone with someone. It did not drop my call and it still freed up 40mb of inactive memory! Great job!! My only hope is that recession apps does continue to upgrade this already awesome app in the future and not forget about us here.. Cause I heard that happened to a few other apps they own :-/

VERY USEFUL!  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: Remoh Cuz - Nov 7, 2009
Version: 1.1
I've had this app for months, use it SEVERAL times EACH day, & realized I had not reviewed it. My constant use makes it easy to rate this: It's clearly 5 stars. Incredibly, I have no complaints nor suggestions. System Montitor does what it's supposed to do and is easy easy easy to figure out, even for a non-techie like me. I have never had any sort of problems whatsoever and all data is accurate. I have tried other similar apps, but noticing I always returned to THIS app, I finally deleted the others. This would be a good app for Apple to include with all their devices, but since they don't, I'm glad to have found this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED & absolutely WORTH the money. (3gs iPhone)

Blows Memory 1.4 out of the water  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: King_Zero_3 - Jun 23, 2009

Very similar to Memory 1.4 - except this app actually works for more than 6 seconds at a time. So far I am averaging between 36 to 48 MB's of freed up memory.
I love what you have done - and I trust you will ne pull a Free Memory 1.4 on all of us and choose never to release an update or make excuses as to why you can’t release the update. In short, this is an awesome app and worth every penny- thank you recession apps!

Sweet, just what I had in mind.  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: Booch138 - Oct 27, 2009
Version: 1.1
This app is pretty sweet. I was hoping they had something like this, and this one is simple and user friendly. Its mega nice to not have to waste time restarting anything to play another game, or use huge apps like Beatmaker because of crashes. I rate this 4 stars because though it has everything I need to monitor, and can free up space, I just wish it looked a little... better I guess. Not that it looks bad, but there is something about it that doesnt scream "Cool" looking. Aside from that minor complaint, I like it. This app is not extremely nessisary or anything, but it is useful to have, and if you are a monitor stat freak like me, this is just unessentially essential to have =)

Much Better!!!  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: zrevai - Apr 17, 2009
Version: 1.0
This is a dramatic improvement over Freememory v1.4 (v1.5 seems to have gotten lost in approval) This brings the much needed 40Mb vs. 20Mb plus all the other wonderful info, battery percentage is by far my favorite though CPU/Process info is sweet too! I have to agree it's not the most visually pleasing app to look at but we aren't using because it's pretty ;) Between this and iStat if iStat had a battery meter I think I might prefer it but I love it's ability to also monitor my Macs CPU/Mem/Temps/etc... So this and iStat both same functions for iPhone/iPod less a battery meter, both free 40Mb just pick your preference. iStat is pretty to look at this is a little bland but looks don't beat functionality.

Superb Memory Clearing  rating of System Activity Monitor: 3GS Update! With Free Memory and Battery Level
By: Bennythesoundman - 12-Sep-2009
Version: 1.1
I actually cleared 61.5MB on a regular iPhone 3G - that beats the previous record achieved by Memory Status by a whole 10MB. However if you're after the memory clearing feature this is your last chance, the next update (Version 1.2) will see it removed as per Apple's demands. Why precisely is beyond me. Just one of the many daft decisions that Apple make with increasing frequency. Remind me Apple are better than Microsoft how?
