This app works! Plain and simple! I do Dozens of searches weekly with my iPhone. From what the suckers on an octopus are really called (daughters science homework) to a list of books by Clive Cussler(check out his Dirk Pitt series), my phone is part of nearly everything I do. This amazing app just makes the task easier. It is so accurate that I NEVER have to re-state what I am looking for. Mapping also is perfect! As a driver, getting from location to location has never been easier. I don't use the other features however from my experiance-----I'm sure they are perfect!!! Get this app- you will not find a better one out there for voice directions and searches!

Really cool and sexy app!
At first I was somewhat skeptical that it would actually work, but after trying it out for a while I'm blown away by the speech recognition accuracy. The ability to update your social network status for Facebook and Twitter by speaking is something I can see myself doing a LOT using vlingo. The speech recognition is really quite accurate out of the box, and apparently gets better the more you use it. I'm looking forward to showing this off to all my friends. Great job!

This is an excellent application. One of my initial frustrations with the iPhone was the lack of a keyboard (and the occasional mistakes that led to). Though I don't use social networks often, the voice dial, search, and map functions are GREAT. I am continually impressed by the accuracy of the recognition, and, as advertised, the application learned from its recognition mistakes after I corrected it.
Regarding the privacy everyone is commenting about, am I the only one who read the screen before using voice dial? Before you click the Voice Dial setup button, the screen says that vlingo collects the names (not numbers) of your contacts to aid voice recognition. It also has a link to the privacy policy. Isn't that a warning?

Outstanding application. Completely amazing accuracy about 95% however your mileage may vary. Very good recognition, polished GUI, and all the voice features in one application is awesome. I really like the ability to access it's different functions from the start screen. The ability to say "Update Twitter" and then what I want as an update is incredible.
Great application and totally worth giving a test drive. It has been added to my permanent apps and onto my first homescreen!!!

The sheer fact that this app does what three apps I was using did makes this app instantly a 3 star. Add in the awesome recognition and the impressive load time and it makes this app a definite top 10 in my book. To the users concerned with the privacy policy, did you actually read it? The only thing I read was them sending you "commercial" offers, but that's only if you download something off their website and you give them your email. They then say right after that any such thing can always be opted out of.

I love how everyone listed on here who actually has it and has really worked with it give it 4 or 5 stars claiming they love it, and then how just a few people giving it 1 star for retarded reasons like "I can't get it on my iPod Touch" or "it doesn't have AIM" or "I can't get it to work"(when they haven't tried reinstalling) bring down the overall average to 3. This app is EXCELLENT. Unbelievable accuracy, and better than all it's competitors. It is completely free, so if you've got dumb complaints that don't apply to anything, keep your 1 star to yourself.

If there were NO world of endless Applications, and THIS App was the only thing my iPhone came with,, I'd buy the iPhone for this alone. Voice recognition is absolutely incredible and accurate; I'd say 99%.. I'ts never let me down. Today I needed to know where the neerest Shoe Repair was in my neighborhood, so I spoke into it "Shoe Repair, Las Vegas, Centenniel Hills" It pulled up a map w/ shoe repair places marked and I was able to check the one nearest me, and get address, phone # etc.. I could go on & on about it,, but here's the BOTTOM LINE when considering down loading it or not... "IT DOES EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED"... EXACTLY!!!

I just say "google search; hi Cindy I'll see you at 3pm". Vlingo quicky returns a google search page with my message and often a couple of alternatives that may be more acurate. I select and copy the message I want and paste it into the regular SMS to my friend. Yes it's cumbersome, but way better then typing (especially when ur busy) and even easier then the current way to send an audio MMS. I just wish Vlingo was built right into the message and email system.

you freaks complaining about the privacy policy have got it all wrong. its specifically states that the only thing they collect are names from your address book...no numbers and no addresses. it also says they do use your info in any way outside of vlingo. i really hate the people screaming privacy this and that....if you want to be 100% protected then give up your cell phone, your computer...hell prob even your tv since its going all digital, and of course your home phone if its all bundled together....then move off the grid, live off the land and then you'll have total privacy, unless of course google earth gets you!!!!!! you babies make me laugh.....btw vlingo is sick, destroys every voice app in the store. i use this a few times daily, and have done so for the last couple months and i think it has been wrong maybe two or three times......we're talkin' way above 95% accuracy.....

The voice recognition is amazing. It's way more accurate than Google mobile, and this app does a lot more. You can do Google search, Google map search, voice dialing, and update Facebook and Twitter. Auto-dialing works in 1.0.3. There's a pop up for 3 seconds before it starts auto-dialing, so you can cancel if it's the wrong number. If only this thing could compose emails, it would be the perfect app.

I've used that speech recognition stuff before and ended up quite disappointed. This works. I didn't even say something easy. I said, search yahoo for kundalini. And it did exactly. Even though it doesn't have speech to text or email yet, this app is quite promising with outstanding quality. It's free, get it. Trust, test it out like I did. I would of paid for this app. Now with me saying that, I hope they don't try and charge for the update. LOL

I've tried a few of the voice apps out on the App Store and they were spotty at best when recognizing what you say. Not this app. I've tried map locations, dialing contacts and web searches. It performs pretty damn well. This will save me a lot of time typing. Other apps like this just didn't measure up and weren't reliable so I never ended up using them. I'll be using this app frequently. Already moved it down to the bottom 4 apps on my iPhone that are always visible no matter which home screen you are on.

I looked at the privacy statement about collecting info. Seems reasonable: "We collect names of individuals and companies that appear in your address book in order to provide a high quality service when you speak a contact name. We do not collect any other information associated with these names such as addresses or phone numbers. We will never use these names to contact anyone for any reason, and we have no way of associating these names with unique individuals or of linking them back to you."

This application is simply awesome. Not only is it free - but it makes using my iPhone so much easier. I liked the Google App for searching... but now I don't need it anymore because this does the same and much more. The voice dialing is awesome and has worked perfectly for me, my web searches I only got one mistake from about 10 searches, and I love the Facebook/Twitter simultaneous updates. I dont need to update both separatly anymore by typing in different applications. My friend has a bad english accent so it didnt work too well for him, but besides that it works perfect I think.
Its free so I recommend everyone try it out. I've already told my friends that have iPhones about it.

Just tried the app, and had fantastic results. The speech recognition is much better than anything else out there. This is my new favorite. For the poster who was worried about vlingo getting their contact info, vlingo's privacy statement on their web site is pretty assuring: "We will never use these names to contact anyone for any reason, and we have no way of associating these names with unique individuals or of linking them back to you."

It's amazing that this app doesn't have 5 stars. People are mad that it doesn't update MySpace???..... I was suprised people actually still use MySpace. MySpace? Look, I'm upset that this app doesn't park my double-wide, but I still gave it 5 stars. MySpace? Really? And I'm upset that this app doesn't fetch me my cigarettes, but I still gave it 5 stars. MySpace? Really? This is one of the best apps for the iPhone and I would pay for it. MySpace? Really?

cool enough that I'd go back and pay for it - but it's free!

I've had this app for ten minutes and have already come here to review it - and I've never reviewed anything before. I've used a few speech recognition apps before, web based and otherwise, and to put it plainly - vlingo actually does what I hoped it would do: accept my simple commands and carry out simple tasks... google this, call that, map this, and so on. I'm sure more is to come from these folks. I'm a cheap-skate, but had I known how cool this program was and was told it would cost 5, even 10 bucks, I'd pay it right now. I'll stand by that as long as they keep it coming and maybe open the app up a bit for developers like myself and allow us to hook vlingo into our own web services... send the translated text via xmlrpc or something, receive a response and that's it... the implementations are endless.
All in all - get this app. Now. Might not be your thing but, for me - it rocks.

Would get four stars if I had paid anything for it. This app doesn't know know where you are so the Map thing isn't all that great. The phone part works great and so does the Internet search. This gets what I said correct 90% of the time. Can't cry too much about that. Thanks for the free app! Update: What's with all the crying about what this app doesn't do(texting)? Did they advertise that it texts? No. Hey, if crying about stuff this app doesn't do and didn't claim to do then I have a few also... WTH, why won't this piece of crap make me a sandwich!? If this thing would mow my yard I would give it more stars. Cry baby morons drive me crazy.

Just hold down the on-screen button, speak clearly and get ready to be amazed.
