Reviews:
this app earns its 5* the old fashioned way - By: CWeems3 - Jul 24, 2009 Version: 2.3.3 I rarely post but this app is too good not to praise it. It is fantastic for filing flight plans and the Wx radar is the best I have seen available. The ability to store approaches and charts for favorite airports is a nice comfort feature. And the display of current metars for multiple airports on the base screen is a great initial snapshot when you open it up. Nice going guys, this app is definitely worth the $!
Worth the money. By: Area53 - Jul 13, 2009 Version: 2.3.3 I tried numerous cheap and free apps but none are as good as this one. The radar images update every 6 minutes to make a great loop view. The interface is very intuitive. Even though I can read metars and TAF's just fine, it is nice to read all of them in decoded format with local time AND zulu. It would be nice to be able to scroll and move on the IFR / VFR charts beyond the small area shown near the airport but that is about my only small gripe.
Updated the OS 3 version just fine and dandy. By: Misterspock - Jun 21, 2009 Version: 2.3.2 Greetings, Just updated the latest version, which seems to be simply a new OS 3.0 checked version. I was running the older version on the new OS just fine. To the gent who complains he gets crashes, I've never had one with this application. One of the Apple genius's told me that if you get a crash on an iPhone app, it's wise to switch it off then on again to reset everything. I've only HAD to do that once, and that was with a stupid little freebie app. It is possible to scramble up the memory in the phone if the developer doesn't know what he or she is doing. Having had my neice download a whole series of free games, I had some issues. Took them off, reset the phone as described above, and no problems ever since. Thanks, Foreflight, as a professional pilot I really wouldn't be without this great application.
Missing Some Functionality By: Diverds - Jun 17, 2009 Version: 2.3.1 Overall I really like Foreflight but considering the pricepoint I think it is missing some functionality.
1. The ability to pan and resize looping radar would be nice. It can be hard to get the big picture for locations that are near the edge of their available map. A looping mosaic of the whole US would help with this.
2. There are no looping satelite images.
3. A user defined favorites section would be a welcome addition to the recents tab.
Hopefully these shortcomings will be addressed in an update. This is a really good app that has the potential to be great.
Great app By: Sunset Flying - May 28, 2009 Version: 2.3.1 I used the flight plan part twice yesterday because of a presidential TFR, once at a non controlled field.
A great tool that saved me a lot of time and phone calls
One suggestion can you add the ability to store a couple of planes with defaults for flight plans rather than manually typing it in each time?
A great app that every serious pilot should own.

2.3, Nice! By: CirrusDriver - May 26, 2009 Version: 2.3.1 2.3 is proof ForeFlight keeps getting better. My previous pros and cons list is included. Both cons were taken care of in this release ... two thumbs up. *** 2.2 Pros/Cons List *** Pros: * Download AF/D to the iPhone and use offline * Updated airport information screens that look like the address book contacts * Additional weather imagery added, like winds aloft Cons: * Can't save approach plates for offline use yet * Graphical TFRs would be nice
If you fly IFR into GA airports, BUY THIS NOW! By: C750 Driver - May 22, 2009 Version: 2.3.1 I can't imagine going anywhere now without consulting Foreflight. I was amazed by the first version and salivate everytime a new update is released. I run into pilots everywhere who either have it already or are waiting for their Verizon contract to expire so they can get an iPhone just for Foreflight. At BWI last week, there were four of us in the pilot's lounge - three of us had iPhone's and Foreflight. The fourth pilot was the Verizon guy! You won't believe how much time you'll save in planning and filing.
2.3 is an amazing update! By: hwy_101 - May 1, 2009 Version: 2.3 I downloaded the latest version of ForeFlight Mobile and was amazed by the number of new enhancements in this new version!
If you are a pilot and haven't purchased ForeFlight yet, this update is the one you have been waiting for! If you already own ForeFlight - download this version today! It is amazing how much they packed into a dot release!
Favorite Airport list. Rotating weather images - Landscape and Portrait modes, saved instrument plates on your phone!! New download manager, and many more cool new features.
I took a cross country flight today and it was so great to have access to the approach plates, STARs, etc. cached and saved on my iPhone from my pre-flight planning session. While flying inbound to shoot the ILS approach, I opened ForeFlight and even though I didn't have an Internet connection, because I had opened the approach plate before I took off, it was stored on my phone and I was able to brief myself on the approach, in flight! Amazing!
Way to go ForeFlight! One very satisfied customer!

great app, fast customer service By: lightly recruited - Apr 7, 2009 Version: 2.2 Programmer(s) have good sense of user-interface design. Especially good use of colors to highlight important info/status. I was especially impressed with weather radar representation. I have bought other weather apps where radar takes ages to load. Weather and radar loaded snappily over non-wireless connection. On the service front they are quick and friendly. I emailed about a wrong ATIS number for KBED. I got quick response, and it turned out it was an FAA mistake, and not ForeFlight. Easily worth the money.
Astonishing By: macuaig - Feb 18, 2009 Version: 2.2 No, really. I'm a Private Pilot who's not current, so I haven't used all the features yet. And yes, all this information is available elsewhere, and yes, you do want to confirm the critical data as you would with any info source. But the sheer density of instantly accessible data (live and archived) here is astonishing, and is exactly the sort of thing that's making this iPhone the most important purchase I've made in years. I'm finding the app's interface easy to maneuver, though an obvious Favorites tab (not just Recent) would be welcome. The price is very steep for Apps, but very cheap for real aviation tools, which this most certainly is. I'm very happy with this package.

Very useful already, please keep improving it By: OldCoder - Jan 19, 2009 Version: 2.1 I consider this a bargain, compared to the Pilot My-Cast weather I used on my Treo. I paid almost this much every year for that weather service. I'm happy that the newest version added a data manager, and downloads the AFD data to your phone. It'd be really cool if we could also download the rest of the information, such as approaches, etc. I find myself using it just for everyday weather checking, because it is so handy.
It doesn't get any better than this. By: ChetticusMaximus - Jan 7, 2009 Version: 2.1 ForeFlight Mobile is perhaps the most useful app on my phone. It is quite easy to see that the company spared no expense and took the app development seriously. ForeFlight Mobile is flawless. Not only does it have all of the necessary data for every airfield in the United States, it also provides a direct way to file flight plans, FROM MY iPHONE! This is extremely handy when I have a layover on a Cross Country and have to file flight plans at places that don't have a planning/pre-flight room in the FBO. The new version of ForeFlight Mobile provides more capabilities than I can describe. I use the Wx feature all of the time, even when I am not flying. With radar images that show the track of the storm, its speed, and updates that are in about 3 minute intervals, I can tell what kind of wx is over a give airport at that very minute (try to get that from TWC). I believe the only way to get a better wx forecast, current conditions, and imagery would be to open up my own wx studio. ForeFlight Mobile also provides the phone numbers for AWOS stations, on the radio as well, so, with a tap of my finger, my phone is calling an AWOS. Handy colored circles show what flight rules are in effect on my Recent Airport page, so with a flash of the eye, I can see if i am going to be VFR, MVFR, or IFR. Of course METARs and TAFs are just one more tap of the finger away. If the airport does not report a TAF, ForeFlight Mobile pulls down the nearest one. The program also has NOTAMs for each field. Charts, FBO info, local hotel info, nearest airport list, forecast, winds, radar imagery, flight plan filing, full A/FD, charts galore, and rapid customer service put ForeFlight Mobile on top, a bargain at any price. ForeFlight Mobile is pure art.
Great value By: Gear_Head - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 2.1 As my fellow pilots have said here, this is a great value. The subscription fees we would otherwise have to pay each cycle for the info we need quickly surpass the price of this app.
The info is wrapped together in a very nice interface, and there is a wealth of information.
The app has crashed a couple of times, but nothing major. I would also like to see a sort of general feature to email graphics to ourselves, such as kneeboard style airport information, weather, and the like. Not many complaints, I fully reccomend getting it if you are a pilot. If, however, you are looking for a "weather" app, then I think you will he wasting your money because of all the other features you won't be using. Thanks foreflight!
Outstanding flight planning tool By: VPNavyFS - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 2.0.3 As a GA pilot, this app gives me everything I need to know to make the all-important go/no-go decision. It's also tremendously valuable in planning a flight -- even though it doesn't have a flight planner built in (who would do all their flight planning on an iPhone anyway?), it's a one-stop reference for airports and their surroundings (hotels, rental cars, etc) as well as weather. Coupled with a site like AOPA's Internet Flight Planner or fltplan.com, most GA pilots will have everything they need to make detailed flight planning a pleasure.
6 month review ***** By: ems430driver - Nov 27, 2008 Version: 2.0.3 I am a working pilot and have now used this app for 6 months. All the improvements I asked for, I got. The developers are extremely available and receptive to suggestion and it allows you to do just about anything you would ever need. If you find something is missing, e-mail these folks and don't be surprised if your get a response within a few hours and see an update within a few weeks. The cost is a non-issue for a professional pilot. There are no recurring subscription fees. Try contact Jepp and asking for that deal. It is worth every penny!!!!
Invaluable Tool By: UX Air - Nov 5, 2009 Version: 2.4.1 I have found ForeFlight to be a invaluable tool in my flight bag. It is a smartly designed and easy to use app that brings together the information I need to assess situations, plan ahead, and make decisions about flying. I use it for pre flight planning, getting updates and additional data in the cockpit prior to departure, and even find myself using it on days that I am not going flying. While I still use other web sites and weather products (ForeFlight Desktop is great!), I find the iPhone app frees me from having to be near the computer. Often times, it's easier to take out the iPhone than it is to walk up to the FBO flight planing area. As a user experience design professional, I am also impressed by the attention they paid to design and usability-- it really pays off!
Can't live without! By: StudentPilotJournal - Oct 12, 2008 Version: 2.0.3 I love this app! I use it daily even when I am not flying. Worth every penny....so I hope that people stop complaining about the cost. If you are a pilot then you can spare the cash for something so valuable. The constant updates really add to everything and the app pays for itself in a few months if you are used to subscription based products. If we want good products then we need to support those that spend their time and valuable resources to develop these types of products. Thanks ForeFlight for all of the hard work and I look forward to the future!
Newest Version is excellent! By: C172Pilot - Nov 13, 2009 Version: 2.4.1 Since my last review I had issues of freezes and crashes. I wrote a bug report and sent it in to the ForeFlight Team. She addressed all the issues and as of right now, it works seamlessly. Not one crash or freeze and data is presented at a fairly good rate (3G). Observations no longer crash and during this last tropical storm (Fay), it displayed some really nice data. If I had to change anything, it would be for some better radar sites, as the ones from NOAA seem to have a lot of ground clutter. I have some of the intellicast and weather channel radars sites iconized to get around that. Overall great job and I got my monies worth!
Wing X or foreflight By: Anemalhouse - Oct 13, 2009 Version: 2.4.1 I am a pilot who flies every day. I have been refered to foreflight and wingX by felow pilots. I couldn't make up my mind so I bought both apps. I found both apps to be verry good. My good friend prefers foreflight and I prefer wingX. Foreflight has a good visual TFR app that wingX does not have. Wing X has a better animated precipitation total or last hour precipitation total than foreflight. Both recieves a 5 star rating from me you won't be disapointed with either. The bottom line I feel safer checking either or befor a flight. Thanks for the great application.
:-) By: Nesralyrag - Oct 10, 2009 Version: 2.4.1 The guys at ForeFlight are ON it!!! Beliw was my review from a week ago. I was VERY disappointed. On Thursday's flight, I'm happy to report, ALL issues for the Hawaii region have been fixed! :-) Excellent (as before) radar is back, sattelite wx is now correctly aimed, winds aloft have been properly added... In fact, there is nothing left to be desired in this now superlative app. I'd now say it is WELL worth my money.(The following was what I had written last week): Latest update made radar for Hawaii inop. For the money I'd expect way better than that. It used to work fine. Winds aloft for Hawaii has NEVER been available.
