Description:
************** This version of Wind Meter is for iPhone 3G only. iTouch is not supported. ************** *Top 20 Paid Weather Application for 6 months straight* Wind Meter - use your iPhone to measure wind speed. Wind Meter works by measuring the volume of the wind on your iPhone microphone and converts it into a wind speed reading. As quoted by Kitelife Magazine: "In our own field tests here at Kitelife, we found that in a relatively consistent wind speed of 3-28 mph, the Wind Meter app was surprisingly accurate." Quotes from other real world users: “Was at Seaside on the weekend and a guy had the app. We put it up next to a wind meter and was only off from the wind meter by 1 mph--pretty impressed.” Reference: http://forums.ikitesurf.com/viewtopic.php?t=12643 “works real good; pretty accurate side by side with other handheld meters. seems to have better averaging [as compared with skywatch]” Reference: http://forums.iwindsurf.com/viewtopic.php?p=102262 To use, simply point the microphone into the wind and push Get Wind! Wait a few seconds and push Got Wind! The final reading is the average of the period. Note: the application appears upside down so you can read the meter while the microphone is pointed into the wind. http://www.goingapps.com Wind Meter supports multiple units of measure including Miles Per Hour, Knots, Kilometers Per Hour, Beaufort, Feet Per Second, and Meters Per Second. Use Wind Meter to determine the wind velocity for a variety of recreational uses such as (but not limited to): windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, rc flying, hang gliding, golfing, hunting, fishing, rowing biking, tennis, and many more. This application is not meant to take the place of scientific instrumentation and is for recreational use only.

Reviews:
A great backup to have & worth the $$$$ By: sailorgirl22 - Sep 18, 2009 Version: 2.2 I've found this app to do what it's supposed to do on my iPhone 3G. I tried it in several situations, usually on a sailboat and found it to be pretty spot on. For a $1 app, I think it's worth the money. It is not going to replace a sophisticated wind instrument, but it's not supposed to, either. When our instruments went wonky on a race it was nice to have as a backup and it's handy to have onshore when you're just curious about the wind speed.
Amazing Device By: LetsRun.com - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 2.2 As a division 1 track coach and operator of LetsRun.com, I was stunned to learn that the iphone could measure wind speed. This app works as advertised and is a lot of fun to take to a track meet. Obviously, you can't use it for official wind readings for record purposes but it's fun to prior to a race to ask yourself, "I wonder if these times will count. How strong is that wind?" and then pull out the iphone and see. It matches up really well with a real track and field wind meter. The people who rated his as one star probably didn't have the right type of iphone as it works great but only on the new iphones. Read the description.

Works well on RC slopes By: JimS123 - May 6, 2009 Version: 2.1 I've used it a half dozen times.. once side by side with another instrument and it was averaging within 3%... I'm not sure if it would pickup the noise from surf crashing on the rocks below at the beach, but i assume that might cause a slightly higher reading in situations with more background noise. But, it was pleanty accuate enough for me as a RC slope pilot. i hope the next rev allows SMS or e-mail of the reading and GPs coordinates to my buddies. .. Thanks, JimS
RC glider pilot By: wr mizzard - Nov 18, 2009 Version: 2.2 As an avid remote control glider pilot, I was extremely excited to find this Wind Meter App for my 3G iPhone. With it I am now able to get a quick measurement of the wind speed at my local hill with much more accuracy than the traditional wet finger. My flying buddies were impressed the first time I pulled out my iPhone and held it into the wind and told them what the windspeed was.Other features I would like to see in updates might be a higher wind speed cutoff (sometimes we fly in over 30mph wind) as well as gusts instead of just an average. Overall I find this to be a very usefull little app.

Clever APP By: Wind Jockey - Jul 18, 2009 Version: 0.2 Pretty cool app. But I am glad I have a 2 generation 3G iphone, a friend of mine has a 1st generation and it crashed. I guess the developer explained OS 2.2 or later, but he just couldn't resist trying it, hoping that it would work, like it does on mine.

Great app By: macbooker4444 - May 13, 2009 Version: 2.2 Very cool program that is real and accurate.
Needs to register above 25 mph though.

First test proved it for me! By: ChasStillman - May 7, 2009 Version: 2.1 Very clever app! By chance it's blowing tonight, so I went up to our flat roof and stood a few feet below our Davis Instruments anemometer. The Davis recorded a max gust of about 26 mph while the max I recorded with Wind Meter was 23 mph. Had I climbed a ladder, I expect the readings would have been even closer. It should keep some of my fellow sailors guessing for a while.

Remarkably Accurate By: Dancin' Eyes - 24-Nov-2009 Version: 2.2 A handy, easy to use, ingenius application and remarkably accurate.
Great App By: Cam@cabrinha - Apr 29, 2009 Version: 2.1 I love this app, I use it when ever i need to know the exact wind speed!
none By: ENV.ENG - Apr 21, 2009 Version: 0.2 This is a great tool for golf and radio control airplanes. The wind meter is very useful while trying to figure out how much club to use when playing golf. It is much more accurate than throwing grass into the air and trying to judge wind speed. I also fly radio control airplanes and have found this very useful while flying smaller models. Great addition to my Iphone. Thank you
Works like a charm or windmeter By: Era kiter - Apr 8, 2009 Version: 0.2 Used at lake Isabella today to kite
You Don't Need a Weatherman... By: PeteJ - Apr 3, 2009 Version: 0.2 This does just what it says. If you can feel a breeze, this can measure it. I used it today at a local radio control flying field in a 10-15mph wind. In use, it delivers a reading quickly and appears to be immune to extraneous noise.
